Yes, you read that right. And admittedly, we were amazed when we heard for the first time that a LEGO Transformers set will probably be released this year. A few days ago, we received information from trustworthy sources that there was actually something to this rumor.
To be more precise, the Transformers Set should have the number 10302, which the Electricbricks online shop announced almost a month ago that it should consist of 1508 parts. In addition, the release should take place on August 1st. Here it is important to note that this is the release date for normal trading. Typically, LEGO reserves the right to exclusively distribute new adult sets for three months, which would result in a release directly from LEGO in May.
In addition to the price of 169.99 euros in Germany, we can also tell you exactly which transformer it is. We have been informed that the set will depict the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime. This is said to be equipped with a jetpack and a weapon, and the set will also include a data plate like in the LEGO Star Wars UCS sets. Unfortunately, we can't tell you yet if the set will be more of a classic version of Optimus based on the animated series, or if it's based on the movies.
Set number: 10302
Designation: Optimus Prime
Number of parts: 1508
Release date: May 2022
Availability: LEGO
Recommended age: 18+
RRP: 169.99 euros
However, we assume that the set will actually be inspired by the upcoming film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is not scheduled to hit theaters until June 2023. The theatrical release was originally planned for June 2022, a good month after the likely release of the LEGO Transformers set - so that would fit quite well, considering that LEGO sets are often planned years in advance. We also don't want to completely rule out the possibility that the set might be pushed back to 2023, but we haven't heard anything about that at this point in time.
It will be exciting to see how the LEGO designers manage that Optimus Prime can transform from his truck to his humanoid form and back. According to our information, this should be possible without having to disassemble and reassemble the set.
It is also particularly interesting that the US toy manufacturer Hasbro is behind the Transformers brand. The range also includes a direct competitor to LEGO with the K-reO brand of clamping blocks. Of course, various Transformers sets have also appeared there over the last few years, including several for the popular Autobot Optimus Prime.
What do you think of an official LEGO Transformers set? Do you think Optimus Prime will be easy to transform? Are you a fan of the franchise and have you seen the movies? Let us know what you think in the comments!
