Well this was unexpected for multiple reasons. One of which being I never would have thought they would release the only two F1s in the same wave, both in black. That's like releasing both cordon and clampdown in the same wave. So this is another case of Hasbro trying to make two toys in one. Like SG Wheeljack. Or is it Slicer. This time its G2 Dragstrip but with a name and colours that also arent bad for Shadowstriker. Or is it just a brand new character? I don't know but I hope they eventually do this with the full team. "G2 Universe" seems to indicate it's Dragstrip, and any connection to Shadow Striker is coincidental. Can Dragstrip and Shadowstrip be used for both arms? According to toy engineering, yes. According to ralph...? |

So that sounds very much like it's the original SS86 Hot Rod toy then, only in toy colours this time. Which... are not that much different to the original SS86 release's colour. And certainly not the hot pink that people were hoping for. This sounds like it'll be underwhelming, for sure... No, but the Star Trek 50th anniversary book trilogy had slugs from another universe trying to take over the galaxy from their hover-sleds.

So it seems like a choice to either make a new character to avoid having multiple versions of the same character out at roughly the same time, which has gotten seriously out of hand over the last few years, or its an effort to target two groups with the same toy. Shadow striker does share the same three major colours, has a fan base and lacks a generations toys so sort of works. |

Unless they're considering G2 and Regeneration 1 and all the other "official" continuations of G1 as separate "universes", in which case it makes sense. But then they'll also need to specify which G1 universe they mean, whether it's Marvel or Sunbow, because there are differences, and- actually I really need to get up and get packed. |
