I see the names Graham Thompson and Paul Wright on the guest list for the Queens Funeral and wonder how not one but two of our chums manage to blag an invite while posing as national religious officials..... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62948934

Planned to spend the day entirely at home and not go out at all until I woke up and remembered, as I always do whenever I plan to spend a day not going out, that lockdown made me hate days spent entirely at home. So I went out.
It's like mirror universe lockdown out there. All the supermarket chains are shut. They're staffed and taking deliveries of Funeral Special morning newspapers containing guides to the order of service, but they won't open for a few hours to sell them to people who want to buy them because that would be disrespectful. Tesco's will apparently open at 5pm if people want to buy a morning newspaper then. Goodness knows how many souvenir newspapers Sainsbury's will send back to be pulped because they're not opening at all.
BUT all the cafe chains are open for sit-in breakfasts, and doing a roaring trade. As I understand it, they'll be respectfully closed during the Funeral itself. Common sense and proportionality prevail in one sector, at least!
I found one independently-run out-of-the-way newsagent that was open to sell early morning newspapers. After respectfully reading it over a porridge and mug of hot apple and cinnamon I left it for the newspaper-starved cafe-goers to fight over and enjoy, then returned home to watch the thing on the telly.

Just had Suki out for a walk. Nice and quiet, the only shop open near me is the Tattoo/Aquarium Fish Shop combo.

Went up the Great Orme in search of goats as I have no interest in The Funeral. Lovely walk.
Came back down and everwhere shut except for a pub and a clairvoyant's parlour nearby.

Got it on here as I dont have the energy to pay attention to anything properly. Have to admit to finding it affecting. If only for realising I was hearing God Save the Queen for likely the last time in a contemporay context which is just odd.
But it would have been so much more so without the week long enforced mourning preceding it.
I did go out in the garden to avoid listening to Truss. It was very quiet. Quite pleasant really.

to avoid listening to Truss I confess that one mean-spirited positive thing about all this for me is how gutted Boris must be that he missed out on presiding over this by a matter of weeks. Martin

How did you find comics when the shops are closed and you're looking for goats?
Is a question I never thought I'd ask.

I always know when we've had a postal strike because my magazine subscriptions get really screwed up. Today I got the DWM that should have been here last Thursday, last week's 2000AD (#2299), the new Megazine I can't read yet because #2300 hasn't arrived, and the subscriber gift magazine.
