Hasn't a live action series between Ep. III/IV been on the cards for a long time? Although I think that eventually became Rebels didn't it?
Either way, I'm all for this. The bits of the Empire's oppression were the best bits in Solo and what we got to see of it in Rogue One gave us a good glimpse into how bad this era actually was for most people. It's one thing the Original Trilogy fails at - we're just kinda told the Empire is bad and oppressive, but all we really see outside of them destroying Alderaan is them fighting the supposed good guys (whose views are given to us as gospel and never questioned).
Now this is likely due to where Lucas draws on for inspiration, but now that we're all grown up, it's good to have context to the Rebellion and its importance. Rogue One casting some of the actions of the Rebellion in a negative light was a great move and added depth and credence to the war that we hadn't seen before, let's hope such a narrative continues.

Fingers crossed.

Does the fact there are three episodes straight up mean the start will be a bit rubbish?

Nah - it was just scheduled to release earlier originally, then they saw the response to Rings of Power and panicked. But they can't just put the whole thing back by three weeks because then it'll end later and clash with another of their shows. I'd rather they'd just put out two episodes a week instead for the first two weeks instead of three at once, but here we are...

No thread for one of the greatest TV series in years?
Second three episode arc just finished, and it's become my absolute favourite Star Wars show. Acting, direction, plot, music, photography, production design all coming together to make something really special. It feels a bit more adult-targeted than SW usually does, there's a bit of Le Carré vibe to it, but it's still unmistakably SW in spirit.
Very glad we're still only halfway!

I'm two episodes in and I am liking it. Feels more like Les Mis in space than Star Wars though. This is not a bad thing.

I'm guessing Phil has done some thread surgery here, extracting this from the main Star Wars thread! Past me was wrong. This series is better for not having K2SO!

I am sure K2SO will get his own 6-part Disney Plus series at some point!

Episode 3 was fab. 1,2,4,5 all good. Really looking forward to watching episode 6 based on the apparently slow slow quick structure. No time until tomorrow, annoyingly.

Excellent series. Can't really fault it other than... Mid-late spoilers... {Spoiler}The whole prison subplot seemed like a way to get Andor out of the way for three episodes whilst everyone else's plots caught up.
I mean, it does give him more motivation to join the rebellion, but it still felt pretty much like they didn't know what to do with the character for that time. Finale spoilers... {Spoiler}That said, given the post credits scene it does add a sense of poetic justice to Rogue 1, given that Andor brings about the destruction of that which he was forced to help construct.
Should the Empire not have locked him up for just walking by a beach, he wouldn't have joined the Rebellion and Rogue One would have probably failed without him.

My Disney Plus sub expires in a few days so we're mainlining this to get it in before then. 6 episodes in 2 days.

Finished watching it yesterday. My favourite of the Star Wars TV shows, possibly my favourite Star Wars content overall (need a rewatch of Rogue One to be sure of that). Luthen’s monologue in episode 10 was phenomenal- great dialogue and acting that have been sorely missed in Star Wars for decades.

The quality of acting, and casting generally, was top-notch. It felt at times like the BBC of the 70s had made a Star Wars show (but with significantly better SFX), in a very good way.

Can't stop thinking about Andor. Wish I could erase it from my memory and watch it again. Did you watch all of the credits after the final episode?

Can't stop thinking about Andor. Wish I could erase it from my memory and watch it again. It had that effect on me as well! The penultimate prison episode especially really stuck in my mind ("No more than twelve" !!!). I listen to the OST sometimes while working / doing chores and it gives me what I believe the kids call Feels. I rarely rewatch anything these days, but I am absolutely going to rewatch this (once I've finished the final season of Brooklyn 99 which finally dropped on Netflix Germany this week) and hope to find a way to drag my non-Star Wars knoweldgeable wife into it as I think it's one of the few SW things she would really like.

I rewatched Andor this week and I'm still blown away. I basically never rewatch anything except my most classic favourites and even then only after a decade between watches. I usually always prefer something new but I wanted to live in the world for longer. Loved it even more on the rewatch, picking out lots more details. Eps 1&2 were still a bit slow but totally worth the include for the pay off in the final episodes. But it takes off after episode 3, once all the wider cast are introduced. Eps 10 & 12 are two of my favourite TV episodes of anything ever.
Loved every scene with Mon Mothma - really interested to see how her character develops into the leader of the Rebellion. She's all in now. Dedra was also fantastic - at the beginning we sympathise with her because she's a woman trying to be successful in a man's world, but by the end we hate her because she's a fascist just like the rest of them. Luthen is just a god-tier character and Stellan Skarsgard was so good playing him.
The costumes and sets are just phenomenal - it looks better than most movies. Ferrix in particular was great, it just really felt like a real place with culture and history of its own.
Also missed on first watch that Melshi from Rogue One is in the prison with Andor and escapes with him. Only realised when watching Rogue One again. Nice to see they end up back together again at some point in the future.
Cannot wait for Season 2. Also glad that will be the final season so hopefully they can keep the quality up and I don't have to worry about the inevitable downturn in quality in later seasons.

I'm glad!
Past Ralph watched episodes 1 and 2 when they came out and thought they were alright and then promptly forgot the show existed.
Present Day Ralph watched 1 and 2 again as well as 3 and 4 and couldn't be hooped with it. Tastes change.

Fair enough, it's definitely not a show that everyone loves!
I do know someone who gave up at episode 5, but we convinced them to at least watch episode 6, and then they became completely hooked. The conclusion to that second arc is where it really takes off, and the subsequent prison storyline with Andy Serkis and assorted Brit actors is certainly the peak.
