It's apparently inspired by a true event.
Though I think it takes a real event and then goes off in a different direction, because I'd like to think if a bear hopped up on cocaine went on a killing spree, I'd have heard about it. Even minor, non-fatal predator attacks make national news, here.

So you can see they took some liberties in the film. |
