Enjoyed visiting the Museum in my lunch break this week and seeing the BBC 100 Years exhibition. The highlight was seeing all the original Bagpuss puppets on display. Martin Nice. Bagpuss is in the queue for a rewatch on Pinwig's current journey through 60s and 70s animated children's classics. I took delivery of a digitally remastered boxed set of the Trumptonshire trilogy yesterday. Lovely. Given the originals for all of these are film, it's a shame not more of them have been issued on blu-ray. |

There is, sadly, a reason for that. The prints that were on DVD were rank :-( Remind me and I'll show you when you're next over. I believe better ones have been found.

I did read up about this before I bought the DVDs; there was a release in 2002 that was superceded by restored versions in 2008, but then a relative of Gordon Murray found some prints in an attic that were then combined with what the BBC had left of the originals in 2011 and restored frame by frame, so an HD set exist but only Camberwick Green had a BR release.
I bought the 2008 DVDs but haven't checked them yet. The HD versions may have been on a satellite channel or streaming service - I bought the most recent Mr Benn DVD recently but compared side by side with the 1080p versions on YouTube, the DVD is not as good. Those 1080p Mr Benn's must have come from somewhere. Britbox maybe? If so, the Trumpton series may be there too.

There is. Out of print and very expensive. Reviews on Amazon say the restoration was a brave effort but isn't great. Came out 2011.
