I like the way his bio fudges this by saying he changes his colour at will when he feels like it. He goes off traveling the world to explore and find resources for the Autobots and comes back a different colour each time.
I want more Hauler repaints. Proper ones though. Urban Camo, artic ice. More!

Yes, if you look here: tfwiki.net/wiki/HaulerIt explains that and says it's from the bio on his first toy release - the 2003 eHobby one. When eHobby did him they used the G1 mould, so an orange Hauler would have basically been Grapple. So he's green, and the bio says he went off in search of fuel and when he came back he was a different colour because it's part of his 'capricious' nature and desire for self expression. So what we're really saying here is that this toy *is* orange Hauler, it's just that the orange is under the green.

I've got a few problems with this.
First, it's all very well to change a character's colour, but if you're going to do that you need to make a toy of him in his original colour scheme first, for those who want to re-enact his early appearances.
Second, if you're going to make a toy of a character whose 'thing' is changing his colour, you should make him an Aquaspeeder or Stormtrooper so you can actually change the colour. Otherwise it's a bit of a wasted concept.
Third, if you want to update your disguise over time, surely the top priority is to update the vehicle you transform into so it's a current model and not one from 50 years ago. If you change your name and colour but leave the vehicle unchanged, you're not addressing the important aspects of your image.

Actually, hang on, if you read that bio it's suggesting green is his original colour, but he changed it to orange on Earth. He starts out as a Constructicon and changes his colour afterwards, but then sometimes changes it back. So in fact he should be green painted orange painted green again. Well that's what makes him unpredictable you see. Or maybe he's into the retro look. I'm not beyond a pair of flares myself. |
