Luke Cage Epic Collection 2 The Fire This Time prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302955069 Publication Date: 13 Feb 2024 Early adventures of Luke Cage, the Hero For Hire, from his debut series in the 70s! Luke Cage defends the streets of New York City and even takes the fight to the outer boroughs in this Epic Collection completing his solo adventures. He’ll face menaces as tough as Moses Magnum, as bizarre as the Mace and as infuriating as the Gem Theater’s always unpredictable vending machine. It’s all set against the gritty streets of 1970s Times Square, a location as colorful as anything Marvel’s minds have ever conjured up. Cage will also face an all-new and amped-up Chemistro; the Spear, who seeks to settle a score with the man who made Luke Cage bulletproof; and an adversary as unstoppable as death itself: the IRS. Also featuring the debut of Bill Foster as Giant-Man and the one and only Piranha Jones! Collecting: Power Man (1974) 24-47 Power Man Annual (1977) 1 472 pages $44.99 USD, $56.25 CAD PM36 is a reprint of Heroes for Hire 12 Power Man 24 is cover dated April 1975 YEAR the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 143, Avengers 134, Fantastic Four 157 & Uncanny X-Men 93, the last reprint issue. www.mikesamazingworld.com/_main/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&sort=alpha&month=4&year=1975Power-Man 47 is cover dated October 1977 the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 173, Avengers 164, Fantastic Four 187 & Uncanny X-Men 107. www.mikesamazingworld.com/_main/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&sort=alpha&month=10&year=1977Cover is Power Man 37 Title is Power Man 32 We've been waiting a bit for this book: Epic 1 came out February 2nd 2021 prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302928315. A year after that an Omnibus was published collecting the entire series prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302944964We knew at the time that would delay Epic 2 till at least 2023, turns out it's early 2024! The colour similarities between covers of Luke Cage Epic 1 and Epic 2 have been remarked upon! This comics series has had four different titles: Luke Cage, Hero For Hire Luke Cage, Power Man Power Man Power Man and Iron Fist www.mikesamazingworld.com/_main/features/series.php?seriesid=4007&page=galleryIt's collected in Epics like this: 1 Retribution Hero for Hire #1-16, Power Man #17-23 2 The Fire This Time Power Man #24-47, Annual #1 Parallel to the later part of Epic 1 and all of Epic 2 we have the issues in the single Iron Fist Epic: 1 The Fury of Iron Fist Marvel Premiere #15–25; Iron Fist #1–15; Marvel Team-Up #63–64 The stories come together in Power Man 48 and the series is formally retitled Power Man & Iron Fist with issue 50. From Power Man 48 the series is *NEARLY* completely collected in the Power Man & Iron Fist Epic Collections: 1 Heroes for Hire Power Man #48–49; Power Man and Iron Fist #50–70 2 Revenge! Power Man and Iron Fist #71–72, 74–89; Daredevil #178 3 Doombringer Power Man and Iron Fist #90–107 4 Hardball Power Man and Iron Fist #108-125 The sole exception is Power Man and Iron Fist 73, which guest stars Rom and was omitted for rights reasons when Epic 2 Revenge was published. Since then Marvel has reacquired the Rom rights and PMIF 73 is included in Rom Omnibus 1. We don't know the precise details of the Rom deal but could we see a reprint of Epic 2 Revenge with issue 73 and, possibly, the follow on story, which also features Luke & Danny, in Rom 23 included? Are we done with Luke Cage Epics here? Possibly not There's a 20 issue Luke Cage series entitled Cage that started in 1992 www.mikesamazingworld.com/_main/features/series.php?seriesid=4635&page=galleryThat was reprinted in Luke Cage Second Chances 1 Cage (1992) #1-12 And Material From Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #82 320 pages 2 Cage (1992) #13-20, Terror Inc. (1992) #11-12 And Material From Silver Sable & The Wild Pack #13-14. 272 pages Cage 15 & 16 are part of the For Love Nor Money crossover with the Terror Inc & Silver Sable issues listed above. Then 1997 Luke becomes part of the reborn Heroes For Hire: www.mikesamazingworld.com/_main/features/series.php?seriesid=8656&page=galleryThat lasts 19 issues plus an annual and has also been collected in two trades: 1 Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #13, Marvel Fanfare (1996) #6 And Heroes For Hire (1997) #1-9. 312 pages 2 Heroes For Hire (1997) #10-19, Quicksilver #11-12 And Heroes For Hire/Quicksilver Annual 1998. 360 pages In both series cases the page counts for the existing trades indicate that neither will fit in just one Epic.

Glad they're getting another Clone Saga volume out in less than a year, but still think they ought to have paced that a bit faster, at least one every 6 months. SS 8 reminded me I'd not picked up 9, and of course they are like gold dust now.

Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider Modern Era Epic Collection 2 Weapon of Choice prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302956356 Publication Date: 20 Feb 2024 Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez’s acclaimed, character-defining run on the breakout star Spider-Gwen continues! Gwen Stacy has lost her spider-powers! That makes it a very bad time to find herself in Frank Castle’s crosshairs! So when Gwen’s band the Mary Janes head to a haunted house, is she along for the fun…or will she become one of the ghosts? Thanksgiving should be a happy time with friends and family — unless crimelord Matt Murdock and his ninjas crash the party! Is it time for Gwen to put a stop to the Kingpin of Crime, or does Matt have a thing or two to teach her? Next, it’s Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales, sitting in a tree — K-I-S-S-I-N-G! Plus: Not one, but two Wolverines! The Captain America and She-Hulk of Earth-65! And the spectacular Spider-Ham! But what shocking development will change Spider-Gwen forever?! Collecting: Spider-Gwen (2015B) 9-24 Spider-Gwen Annual (2016) 1 All-New Wolverine Annual (2016) 1 Spider-Man (2016) 12-14 496 pages $44.99 USD, $56.25 CAD Spider-Gwen 9 & Annual 1 are cover dated August 2016 the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 32, All New, All Different Avengers 10 & 11 & Uncanny X-Men 8 & 9. This is the second Spider-Gwen Epic, the first Epic 1 Edge of Spider-Verse collected the following: Edge of Spider-Verse #2; Spider-Gwen (vol. 1) #1-5; Spider-Gwen (vol. 2) #1-8, Spider-Women Alpha #1, Silk (vol. 2) #7-8, Spider-Woman (vol. 6) #6-7, Spider-Women Omega #1 There's a Spider-Gwen Omnibus which collects Edge Of Spider-Verse #2, Spider-Gwen (2015A) #1-5, Spider-Gwen (2015B) #1-34, Spider-Gwen Annual #1, All-New Wolverine Annual #1, Spider-Women Alpha And Omega, Silk (2015B) #7-8, Spider-Woman (2015) #6-7 Spider-Man (2016) #12-14. So from the main Spider-Gwen series 25-34 are still to go. Half an Epic. www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=19586&page=galleryBeyond that the Spider-Gwen Ghost Spider Omnibus collects Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #1-10, Spider-Geddon: Ghost-Spider Video Comic, Ghost-Spider #1-10 And Annual #1, King In Black: Gwenom Vs. Carnage #1-3, Web Warriors #1-11 Material From * Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #1. And that's probably another Epic and a half.

This image of my library from SEVEN YEARS AGO popped up on my FB memories this morning. Epics are bottom right, you can see one shelf with ASM, Avengers, DD & Cap but there's likely to be a second underneath it. The Epics are now all but all of the first two units of shelving

Daredevil Modern Era Epic Collection 2 Underboss prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302956332 Publication Date: 05 Mar 2024 Industry legend Brian Michael Bendis begins his acclaimed five-year DAREDEVIL run! When the staff that once belonged to his mentor is stolen, Daredevil is determined to get it back — even if that means joining an ancient ninja battle between the Seven and the Hand! Then, why is investigative reporter Ben Urich focusing on the catatonic son of two-bit costumed criminal Leap Frog — and how is Daredevil connected to a child he doesn’t even know? When a rich client hires Matt Murdock to sue Daredevil, it’s time for everyone’s favorite attorney to play to the camera! Plus: Ambitious gangster Sammy Silke has inspired Wilson Fisk’s lieutenants to rise up against the Kingpin of Crime! But what is the connection between Silke’s coup and the contract on Matt Murdock’s life? Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev’s gritty reinvention of Daredevil’s world begins right here! The contents of Epic 2 tell us that Epic 1 must then be 1-15 + what else? There's a couple of possibilities: Daredevil/Spider-Man 1-4 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9227&page=galleryDarkdevil 1-3 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9210&page=galleryOr the book could, like the forthcoming Astonishing X-Men Epic, run a bit shorter than we've been used to up until now? Epic 2 is mainly Brian Bendis material covering issues 16-31 but there's an additional limited series and some issues not written by him Daredevil: Ninja 1-3 (Bendis) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9219&page=gallery16-19 Wake Up (Bendis) 20-25 are mainly written by Bob Gale 20 Redsuit Lawsuit plus the 5 page My Brother's Keeper by Stan Lee 21 A Fellow of Infinite Jest 22 Legal Questions 23 Making Offers 24 Ruminations over Manhattan 25 Who is that masked man? 26-31 Underbox (Bendis) Epic 3 is currently due out 15th October - see prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302956370 - and collects issues 32-50. That breaks up like this: 32-37 Out 38-40 Trial of the Century 41-45 Lowlife 46-50 Hardcore Daredevil 50 was published October 2003 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&month=10&year=2003&sort=alpha&variantex=onHere's how the remainder of the Bendis run divides up 51-55 Echo (writen by David Mack) (5 issues worth) 56-60 The King of Hell's Kitchen (5 issues worth, 10 total) 61-64 The Widow (4 issues worth, 14 total) 65 The Universe (double sized, 16 total) 66-70 The Golden Age (5 issues worth, 21 total) 71-75 Decalogue (75 double sized) (6 issues worth, 27 total) 76-81 The Murdock Papers (6 issues worth, 33 total) Bendis last issue is Daredevil 81 published March 2006 at which point Bendis' New Avengers was on issue 15 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&month=3&year=2006&sort=alpha&variantex=onTo collect the remainder of the Bendis Daredevil will take 33 issues worth of space. At 20 issues per book that says there's at least 2 more volumes of Bendis Daredevil, as his material takes just over one & a half Epics with some room to spare. However there's the question of where to cut between the two, or possibly 3 volumes, needed to collect the material and extras AND if you want a neat cut between the Bendis material and the Brubaker that follows. (To he last question: I suspect you do!) Now you *COULD* split the main title into two blocks ..... EPIC 4 51-55 Echo (writen by David Mack) (5 issues worth) 56-60 The King of Hell's Kitchen (5 issues worth, 10 total) 61-64 The Widow (4 issues worth, 14 total) 65 The Universe (double sized, 16 total) EPIC 5 66-70 The Golden Age (5 issues worth) 71-75 Decalogue (75 double sized) (6 issues worth, 11 total) 76-81 The Murdock Papers (6 issues worth, 17 total) .... and call that Job Done with two slightly short volumes. These options spring to mind for extras: The first, written by Bendis and featuring Daredevil is the five issue Secret War www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=9896Issue 1 cover dated April 2004 same month as Daredevil 57 Issue 5 cover dated December 2005 same month as Daredevil 78 Then we have the six issue Daredevil Father (26, 30, 31, 28, 25 & 27 pages, 167 pages just over 7.5 issues worth) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9923&page=galleryIssue 1 cover dated June 2004 same month as Daredevil 59 Issue 6 cover dated February 2007 same month as Daredevil 92 Daredevil: Redemption 1-6 (2005) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=10041Issue 1 cover dated April 2005 same month as Daredevil 70 Issue 6 cover dated August 2005 same month as Daredevil 74 Captain Universe/Daredevil 1 (2005) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/comic.php?comicid=132789cover dated January 2006 same month as Daredevil 79, DD Punisher 6 & DD Father 5 Finally the six issue Daredevil vs Punisher www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=10210&page=galleryIssue 1 cover dated September 2005 same month as Daredevil 75 Issue 1 cover dated January 2006 same month as Daredevil 79, Captain Universe DD 1 & Daredevil Father 5 Another option for the rest of Bendis is this: EPIC 4 51-55 Echo (writen by David Mack) (5 issues worth) 56-60 The King of Hell's Kitchen (5 issues worth, 10 total) 61-64 The Widow (4 issues worth, 14 total) Secret War 1-5 (5 and a half ish issues worth, 19 and a half ish total) EPIC 5 65 The Universe (double sized) 66-70 The Golden Age (5 issues worth, 7 total) 71-75 Decalogue (75 double sized) (6 issues worth, 13 total) 76-81 The Murdock Papers (6 issues worth, 19 total) Looks more even, closer to strength and all Bendis Problem is I'm not sure I like Secret War as the extra in DD when we're leaving out lots of DD series. I missed out on the Bendis Daredevil the first time round and only picked them up in the Ultimate Collections after I started reading the title under Ed Brubaker, who I'd been enjoying on Captain America. Brubaker's first issue of Daredevil is 82 Cover Dated April 2006. He writes 82-119 & 500, just over the amount of issues needed for another 2 Epics. Andy Diggle is 501-512. With the remaining Brubaker issues that'll make another Epic but doesn't include the Shadowlands event limited series - does it need to? Avengers Modern Epics have left out several events so far. 513-529 & 523.1 is Black Panther Man Without Fear/Most Dangerous Man alive. YMMV if this gets collected in DD Modern Epics but it is effectively a book all by itself.

Carnage goes cosmic! When the Carnage symbiote sets its sights on the Silver Surfer as a shiny new host, does Spider-Man have any hope of stopping a lethal killer with the power cosmic?! Cletus Kasady’s wild story continues in the Negative Zone, where waits Blastaar the Living Bomb-burst! But it won’t be long before Carnage is venting his “daddy issues” on none other than Venom — with his own offspring, Toxin, caught between them! While talking about the last Carnage epic I asked " In the Carnage Classic book - www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/MAR160953 - but not in Epics 1 or 2 we have: Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 430-431 Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol 1 10 Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol 1 13 Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man Vol 1 13-14 Do those first few post Epic 2 appearances get orphaned? Or are they the start of a Modern Epic? Or the start of a Carnage Epic 3 which wanders WAAAAY into Modern Epic Territory?" Option 3 it is. I'm happy with the first few appearances but I start to get uncomfortable with Venom vs Carnage in a "classic era" Epic as that starts the same month as Avengers 500, the start of Disassembled and the first issue in the New Avengers Modern Epic. www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&month=9&year=2004&sort=alphaBased on the contents of Venom Modern Epic 4 we believe that Venom vs Carnage will also appear in Venom Modern Epic 2. I think we can see where the Carnage Modern Epics will start Toxin 1-6 & X-Men/Spider-Man 3 are Carnage appearances that aren't in the Carnage Omnibus despite being in that time frame. Venom vs Carnage may feel modern but 2009's X-Men/Spider-Man 3 is by some distance the most recent issue published in a "classic" Epic Collection!

The variant covers for Fantastic Four issues 398 & 399 together with the standard cover of 400 form a progressive series of images. The cover of this Epic is the first time I've seen an image of the 400 cover that isn't chromed. This book is a major landmark in the collection of Fantastic Four as it connects Epics 17-23 with Epic 25 to form a 9 Epic run from issues 296-416 & Annuals 20-27 Since Fantastic Four Visionaries John Byrne collects Fantastic Four #232-295 and Annuals 17-19 that means EVERYTHING from John Byrne's first issue upwards has been collected in colour paperback. Put that together with the Masterworks, currently in the middle of the Byrne run, then every issue of Fantastic Four has been collected for the first time. Epics are currently missing issues 167-295 & Annuals 11-19. Of the issues in there prior to the Byrne run the following have previously been collected in colour paperback: FF Visionaries Perez 1 collects 170, 176-178, 184-186 FF Visionaries Perez 2 collects 187-188, 191-192, Annual 14 & Annual 15 FF Visionaries Byrne 0 collects 215-221 There's two more volumes of Essentials to go before that's completed 8 1975–1977 The Fantastic Four #160-179, 181-183, Annual #11; Marvel Two-in-One #20, Annual #1 9 1977–1979 The Fantastic Four #184-188, 190-207, Annual #12-13 Epic 10 Counter-Earth Must Die! which collect 168-191 & Annual 11 currently scheduled for 24th September, which effectively brings that down to 192-295 & Annuals 12-19 and finishes the recollection of Perez Visionaries 1 and Essential 8 So here's where Fantastic Four Epics now stand: 1 The World's Greatest Comic Magazine 1-18 2 Masterplan of Doctor Doom 19-32 Annual 1-2 3 The Coming of Galactus 33-51 Annual 3 4 The Mystery Of The Black Panther 52-67 Annual 4-5 5 The Name Is Doom 68-87 Annual 6 6 At War With Atlantis 88-103 Annual 7 7 Battle of the Behemoths 104-125 Annual 8-9 (covers) 8 Annihilus Revealed 126-146 GS1 9 The Crusader Syndrome 147-167 GS2-4 10 Counter-Earth Must Die! 168-191 Annual 11 - DUE SEPTEMBER 24th 2024 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 All In The Family 296-307 Annual 20 18 The More Things Change... 308-320 Annual 21 19 The Dream is Dead 321-333 Annual 22 20 Into The Timstream 334-346 Annual 23 21 The New Fantastic Four 347-361 Annual 24 22 This Flame, This Fury 362-376 Annuals 25 -26 23 Nobody Gets Out Alive 377-392 Annual 27 24 Atlantis Rising 393-402 25 Strange Days 403-416 That leaves Epics 11-16, an SIX volume gap and the largest mid series gap remaining (Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men have currently undefined upper limits and are likely to have more than 8 Epics left to at the later end of their runs) It's a BIG gap but we can start to have a more accurate stab at what it looks like. It helps that all the material in there has been collected in some form, some a number of times! This gap has always scared me a bit and every time I have a go at it I see problem with what I've done. So I've been through and worked out when any of the possible extras should appear. And it is possibles, there's a lot I'd love to include but don't see the room for, including some that has never been collected in Fantastic Four Trades. I've liked the first Byrne issue 232 to start Epic 13 and I can finally make the numbers fall right. I'm confident of the end of Epic 15 (and thus the major contents of 16) as the numbers fall just right for it finishing on Fantastic Four 277 followed by Thing 23 which is a perfect story beat to end with. 11 192-210 Annual 12 Annual 13 (Mainly 17 page issues. 200 is double sized. Roughly Equivalent of 24 issues) 12 211-231 Annual 14 Peter Parker 42 Annual 15 (Mainly 17 page issues. 22 Pages as of 225. Roughly Equivalent of 26 issues) 13 232-245 Annual 16 FF Roast 1 (Mainly 22 page issues. 236 54 pages, about 2.5 issues. Roughly Equivalent of 19.5 issues, 232 is the First Issue of Byrne Run, 244 concludes a Galactus story) 14 246-260, Annual 17, Avengers 233, Thing 2, Alpha Flight 4 (Mainly 22 page issues. 250 37 pages, about 1.5 issues. Roughly Equivalent of 20.5 issues) 15 261-277 Thing 10 Annual 18 Thing 23 (Mainly 22 page issues. Roughly Equivalent of 21 issues) 16 278-295 Annual 19, material from Secret Wars 2 issues 2 (Mainly 22 page issues. Roughly Equivalent of 17 issues) Will need some help from one of * Epic Illustrated 26-34's Last Galactus Story OR * Marvel Graphic Novel Revenge of the Living Monolith OR * Marvel Graphic Novel She Hulk OR * Avengers Annual 14 & Issue 263 (Each of which will bring it up to about 20 issues)

Not read it since it came out but the glacial pace, frequent breaks in publication, and art I found a bit sterile and lifeless all turned me off. I am aware however that it does have a great many fans. If it had been up to me X-Men modern Epics would have started with the Morrison & Quitely New X-Men line which in many ways is the direct predecessor to and inspiration for Astonishing X-Men. Indeed we knew about New X-Men Modern Epic 1, currently due in late June 2024, before we knew about Astonishing X-Men Modern Epic 1: New X-Men 1 was revealed in a Near Mint Condition Video on 16th June 2023 while Astonishing X-Men 1 was found on Amazon on 12th July 2023, a late addition to the line up. The Astonishing prefix has been used twice before on an X-Men book for two short limited series: Age of Apocalypse www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=5016The Shattering www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=8950This volume of Astonishing X-Men is it's first use on a regular book and it was created as a vehicle for two creators: Writer Joss Whedon www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/creator.php?creatorid=3963Artist John Cassady www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/creator.php?creatorid=3963They produce the title up till issue 25 (March 2008) & Giant Size 1 (July 2008) Those of you that can do the Maths on those dates vs Issue Numbers can see that the title did not quite stick to a monthly schedule, perhaps a lesson learnt from New X-Men with people regularly having to fill in for Frank Quitely and ensuring a better quality more consistent overall product. I just wished they'd learnt it sooner and given us New X-Men completely drawn by Quitely!!! This volume of Astonishing X-Men consists of the following components: 68 issues (to December 2013) & an Annual (Jan 2013, same month as issue 56): www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=9938Saga (March 2006, between 12 (August 2005) and 13 (April 2006!)) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/comic.php?comicid=133604a Giant Size (July 2008, between 24 & 25): www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/comic.php?comicid=138366Sketchbook Special (August 2008, between Giant Size 1 & 25) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/newsstand.php?type=cover&month=8&year=2008a 2 issue Ghost Box Limited Series (December - January 2008, published between issues 22 Oct 2007 & 23 Jan 2008) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=13641Astonishing X-Men/Amazing Spider-Man:The Gauntlet Sketchbook (November 2009, between 29 & 30) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/comic.php?comicid=155095a 5 issue Xenogenesis limited series (July 2010, the month before issue 34 - April 2011, issue 36) www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=12355This first Modern Epic is a rejacket of the first of two Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday Collections so you can probably get a good idea of what Epic 2 looks like from the second book: 1 Astonishing X-Men #1–12 320 pages 2 Astonishing X-Men #13–24; Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men #1 344 pages Astonishing X-Men Modern Epic 1 is now the holder for the record of the Marvel Universe Epic with the lowest page count at just 320 :-( After the Whedon/Cassaday run we're looking at collecting the following in the Epics: Astonishing X-Men 25-68 Annual 1 (Jan 2013, same month as issue 56): Sketchbook Special (August 2008, between Giant Size 1 & 25) a 2 issue Ghost Box Limited Series (December - January 2008, published between issues 22 Oct 2007 & 23 Jan 2008) Astonishing X-Men/Amazing Spider-Man:The Gauntlet Sketchbook (November 2009, between 29 & 30) a 5 issue Xenogenesis limited series (July 2010, the month before issue 34 - April 2011, issue 36) By eye that looks like 3 slightly thin Epics worth Here's how it's previously been collected: * Ghost Box: Astonishing X-Men Ghost Boxes 1-2, Astonishing X-Men 25-30 Ellis/Bianchi * Exogenetic: Astonishing X-Men 31-35 Ellis/Jimenez * Xenogenesis: Astonishing X-Men Xenogenesis 1-5 Ellis/Andrews * Monstrous: Astonishing X-Men 36-37, 39, 41 Daniel Way/Jason Trent Pearson/Nick Bradshaw * Children of the Brood: Astonishing X-Men 38, 40, 42-43 Christos N. Gage/Juan Bobillo * Exalted: Astonishing X-Men 44-47, (Journal of Emma Frost material from Ghost Boxes 1) Pak/McKone * Northstar: Astonishing X-Men 48-51, material from Nation-X, Alpha Flight 106 : Marjorie Liu/Michael Perkins * Weaponized: Astonishing X-Men 52-56, Annual 1 Marjorie Liu/Michael Perkins (Annual Christos N. Gage/David Baldeon) * Unmasked: Astonishing X-Men 57-59, 62-68 : Marjorie Liu/Gabriel Hernandez Walta/ Amilcar Pinna * Xtermination: - Age of Apocalypse #13-14, - X-Treme X-Men (Vol. 2) #12-13, - X-Termination #1-2, - Astonishing X-Men (Vol. 3) #60- 61 : Marjorie Liu/Matteo Buffagni/Renato Arlem A quick read of the Xtermination page on the Marvel Wiki marvel.fandom.com/wiki/X-Termination suggests that Age of Apocalypse #13 and X-Treme X-Men (Vol. 2) #12 are prologues to the main event and aren't 100% necessary from Astonishing X-Men's Point of View Let's assume Epic 2 is a rejacket of the previous Complete Collection 2, closing out the Whedon/Cassidy run: Astonishing X-Men #13–24; Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men #1 344 pages Epic 3 then looks like all 18 issues of the Warren Ellis run: Astonishing 25-35, Ghost Boxes 1 & 2 and Xenogenesis 1-5 Epic 4 can then contain everything pre Marjorie Liu, Astonishing 36-47, without us having to worry about alternating storylines & creative teams between issues in the late 30s/early 40s needing an off Deadpool/Spider-Man split between volumes. Originally I had Liu's first few issues in this book too but adding Sword 1-5 at the start brings the book up to a semi respectable 17 issues. S.W.O.R.D. 1-5 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=141561 is cover dated Jan 2010 same month as Astonishing X-Men 32 5 is cover dated May 2010 in between Astonishing X-Men 33 in Feb 2010 and Astonishing X-Men 34 in August 2010 I can justify that through S.W.O.R.D.'s usage of Astonishing's Beast and also featuring regular supporting cast member Abigail Brand. The problem then is the Marjorie Liu run is just 26 issues including all of Xtermination. 48-59, Annual 1 is 13 issues worth. Xtermination (X-Termination #1, Astonishing X-Men #60, Age of Apocalypse #14, X-Treme X-Men #13 & X-Termination #2) plus Astonishing 61-68 is another 13. So two shorter Epics again at the end to close things out in a similar manner to the start. There is a later Astonishing X-Men series which runs for 17 issues from September 2017 to January 2019, but I suspect that will be dealt with as a separate book in time www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=21004

Cards on the table: not a fan of Astonishing X-Men. Not read it since it came out but the glacial pace, frequent breaks in publication, and art I found a bit sterile and lifeless all turned me off. I am aware however that it does have a great many fans. Same. You could tell that Whedon loved classic X-Men comics, but he didn't bother much with the dense plotting that lots of people associate with them. In some ways it reminded me of Kevin Smith's Daredevil, except he had Quesada on art and so it was really beautiful. Volumes 1 & 2 of this epic are a bit cursed by "problematic" writers, though I doubt that will translate into any kind of dent in sales.

Astonishing X-Men was shite. I got the first trade back in the day and it took under 10 mins to read cover to cover.

This is most, but not all, of the old Wolverine: Return of Weapon-X trade from, 2013: www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN130694978-07851-8523-9 COLLECTING: Wolverine (1988) 159-176, Wolverine Annual 2000-2001 For a long time one of Marvel's largest paperback trades at 544 pages that would be a push to get in one Epic, though Dark Avengers topped that with 552 pages recently. However there's also the remaining Wolverine issues from 177 to 189 to take into consideration so the previous book gets split up. In Epic 14 we have: Annual 2000, Annual 2001 Wolverine #159-161 "The Best There Is" Wolverine #162-166 "The Hunted" Wolverine #167-169 "Bloodsport" Wolverine #170-172 "Stay Alive" And to follow in Epic 15: Wolverine #173-6 "The Logan Files" Wolverine #175 backup "The Vow" This release leaves the Wolverine line with 2 pairs of 2 volume gaps and in theory one more book at the end 1 Maridpoor Knights 1-16 2 Back to Basics 17-30 3 Blood & Claws 31-44 4 5 6 Inner Fury 69-75 7 To The Bone 76-86 8 The Dying Game 87-100 1995 9 Tooth & Claw 101-109 1996 10 11 12 Shadow of Apocalypse 133-149 13 Blood Debt 150-158 1999 14 The Return of Weapon X 159-172 2000, 2001 15 The first pair of volumes looks a pretty easy split: 4 45-50 MCP 72-84 Weapon X, MCP 85-92 Blood Hungry (Cyber), Wolverine Reign of Terror 5 51-68 Punisher/Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Hearts of Darkness Reign of Terror & Hearts of Darkness both have their sequels in later Epics, raising the probability of their inclusion. Blood Hungry's Cyber character reappears in the main Wolverine book in Epic 8 and DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY'LL LEAVE WEAPON-X OUT? Epics 10 and 11 are a little more challenging, but the main series issues have an obvious split: 10 110-122, -1, Annual 97 + ?? (119-122 Not Dead Yet is Warren Ellis) 11 123-132 + Black Rio + ?? But I think there's enough extras around then for an extra Epic: * Wolverine/Elektra 3 issues, 56, 64 & 64 pages. Same month as W 170-172. About 9 issues worth. www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9385&page=galleryWolverine/Hulk 1-4 W 173-176 * Wolverine/Hulk Same months as 173-176 4 issus worth www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=9428* Wolverine: Netsuke 1-4, 32 pages each, 6 issue equivalent, same months as W 181-184 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=9551* Wolverine: Xisle 1-5, same month as W 189 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9702&page=gallery* Wolverine: Doop 1-2 month after W 189 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9713&page=gallery* Wolverine: Snikt 1-5 months following W189 or same months as Wolverine(2003) 1-5 www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9715&page=galleryTo my mind the break between the original ongoing Wolverine series and it's 2003 reboot - www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/series.php?seriesid=9711&page=gallery - is the obvious & ideal spot for Wolverine to move to Modern Epics.

Modern Epic 1 is identical to Complete Collection 1, I suspect further Modern Epics will follow suite especially now Modern Epic 5: Keeping the Faith has been announced collecting Spider-Girl #68-84 and leading straight on from Complete Collection 4. That leaves 85-100 yet to be collected, effectively 17 issues due to the nearly double sized issue 100. That's probably all of Modern Epic 6 there. So we're probably looking at NINE Modern Epics to collect Spider-Girl in total.

Ooooo. I enjoyed the early issues of Spider-Girl, but had largely stopped buying comics by 2000, I guess, so I had no idea it had run for that long. If I were ever foolish enough to follow Phil down the epic rabbit hole these could tempt me.
Off topic but Sony should really make a Spider-Girl film series instead of the mess they are currently trying to make happen. Make it a sequel to the Raami films and get McGuire and Dunst back. Instead of losing a leg have the injury from No Way Home cause his retirement and you also get an MCU tie in which Sony are so desperate for.

I could be tempted into this Epics for these. I followed Spider-Girl through about 8 of the digest volumes (which I thought was a really nice format, but I guess it just didn't take off) and it continues to be fun. It really captures that bronze age comics feel well.

I really liked the first Spider-Girl series so could so with a collected edition series. Though this being the Epic Format it'll probably be volume 4 then 1 then 7 then 3, etc.
FFS, Marvel, learn the concept of releasing a series in order! This is what stops Epics from being a great line.

Marvel have. They use it very rigorously on their Omnibuses, Marvel Masterworks and Mighty Marvel Masterworks
They're also not keen on using material in the same format in quick succession. So those books, the first two of which are big thick expensive money making hard back formats have the priority.
Epics "random" order allows them to dance round those other series. Beyond bowing to those needs, and other demands, usually the need to promote a film or other project, Epics do tend to stay on order now they've mainly got beyond reprinting unreprinted material. Avengers West Coast has had all of it's 7 volumes published in order and with one more to go it will complete at 8 books in order.
Spider-Girl .... they've been quite clever. 1 first to get new readers in. That book is a rejacket of the former Complete Collection 1 with Epics 2-4 expected to be CC 2-4. Epic 5 is on the runway, there to pick up those who did buy the cancelled Complete Collection series

The random order is why I haven't bought many. As a reader it puts me off. It's a shame as otherwise it would be a great format but I can't recommend it due to the publishing decisions.
It's why I have veered more towards the Omnibus format.

I find it one of the series strengths. Some titles would have had to trudge through years of at best mediocre comics that often have already been reprinted multiple times - Iron Man springs to mind - before getting to anything interesting. And often that interesting stuff would already have been reprinted!
For me it's wonderful to have gotten the Nocenti and Chichester Daredevil runs completed long before the well-trodden, almost perpetually in-print in some form, Miller run. And with some of the shorter, lesser-known runs as well, like Kesel's and Kelly's.
I'm not sure the line would have taken off like it did if it had had to dutifully work through the silver age first.

Iron Man is a good point, it starts off with the cracking O'Neill run never reprinted before

It puts me off personally. When I see a series I want to read I want to get volume 1, then volume 2, etc. I want to read something from the start, without gaps.
Many times I have thought: 'I would like to read Series X' but have checked and only random volumes are in Epic format so just didn't bother and spent money on something else instead.
