We had Skyfire in the cartoon series (which we have a different design for the character. This being a bigger aircraft able to carry others like Astrotrain does). The same design was using in the Marvel comic rather than the Jetfire toy that was just a jet maybe just 2 seater & not big enough to carry anyone.
So was it Skyfire in the Marvel comics seeing they used that design. There was the issues with the toy ownership. But Shockwave & Omega had no problems or change in design.
This is with also Jetfire being the first seen in SKybound too.

Hasbro didn't have the rights to sublicense the appearance of the Jetfire toy to Marvel. They had acquired rights from Takatoku to repackage the toy in the West, but not rights to feature it's appearance it in secondary media. Those had already been licensed out elsewhere (I'd have to research, but those rights where either with Matchbox or Harmony Gold) (They also didn't retain the rights to repackage the toy for very long either - Bandai, who acquirred a lot of Takatoku's toy manufacturing assets when Takatoku sold them - do not appear to have been anxious to renew the initial contract with Hasbro they inherited from Takatoku once they had fulfilled it. Hence why Jetfire fairly swiftly disappeared from the toyline.
Shockwave and Omega Supreme were in a different situation - in both cases Hasbro/Tomy clearly had licensed/acquirred the entire set of rights, as there was no pre-existing media with complicated ownership to muddy the waters as there was with the toy that became Jetfire so they could freely repackage the toys and utilise them in creating secondary media.
(From my perspective, Jetfire and Skyfire are entirely different characters - one was a scientist from planet Cybertron, and the other an engineer/gadget-guy from planet Earth. They had different histories, different professions...basically I see them as entirely different people.)
