The nose looks too short because of the brown area which is actually part of the nose but not coloured that way on the original

Hot Shot has pushed a very odd button for me. It looks exactly like what it should do, looks a great toy but I'm not sure I want it cos I have the original and it looks almost the same.
I feel very similar about Vector Prime, which looks much better than I was expecting it to
I'm a big Unicron Trilogy fan and am so pleased they're getting remakes
Cybertron & Armada Starscream gave me toys I didn't have which couldn't be got cheap. Armada Megatron & Commander Optimus gave me Articulation. Cybertron Metroplex and Armada Tidal Wave gave me size.
I'm not sure Hot Shot & Vector Prime are selling themselves to me as anything I need but somehow a chunkier RiD Sideburn *IS*

I can't work out what the switch is in my head that flips between "nice update but I've got the original and I prefer that" and "nice update, I need this as well as the original".

Definitely having Vector Prime though. That's a stonking looking figure based off what was already a super mould.

The thing I really don't like about Vector Prime is how he's completely reusing the Jhiaxus leg mold - it's not a remold at all - and as such he's still got the connectors there for Jhiaxus' ankle wings... only they've not put anything into them. So just some pointless clips lurking at his ankle. Now I've seen it I can't unsee it. And it's a complete turn off for the figure.

The clips could be conductors for the energy Vector Prime needs for his Time Powers.

They're now used as tabs for his wings, you can see a slot in the brown strut for one of them if you look carefully

That is a lovely looking figure. Definitely down for that.

I just can't get enthused about new Cybertron toys but with puny-size Cyber Keys that do **** ALL.
What is the point??

Nostalgia marketing. There are a fair number of folks with a decent-sized disposable income for whom these are their "I had that when I was a kid" toys. In exactly the same way that the Sunbow-based figures are aiming at the "These are The Transformers from when I was young" reflex, just at a different age-group.
They not intended as "toys to be played with", they are "toys to be looked at", at least - that is my assumption.

It's easy to forget that we're heading for the 20th anniversary for Cybertron!
I find it interesting that at this point for G1 reissues were the main thing, far more than modern updates, yet there doesn't seem to be any appetite for Unicron Trilogy era reissues at all. Toys too easy to get still on the secondary market in good condition?

Toys too easy to get still on the secondary market in good condition? For me, yes. Some of the Universe repaints of that era can be cheaper too. I got a MISB* Universe Vector Prime** last year for less than what the new one costs. -Ralph *The packaging survived for 5 mins before going in recycling. I just wanted a good condition copy of the toy. **Though that version had the electronics guttered so I may have defeated my own argument up-thread.

Of all Cybertron toys I did not expect Vector Prime to be used as an example of this!
I'd regretted selling on both of my originals, but when I looked last year even loose 100% complete ones seemed a bit on the pricey side to me. The Takara version can go for silly money.

As Jim said nearly 20 years since Cybertron. About half the Unicron Trilogy is now more than 20 years ago. At the same point from G1 we were getting Masterpiece, Binaltech and WST all of which were nostalgia based and a hell of a lot less "toys to be played with" than these guys.

Even if my purchasing has dropped off these are, to me, very much toys to be played with, they just prioritise different play features than the originals. Whether thats a good thing or not is just personal opinion. But for the 5-10 year olds of today its not even a factor as most will never have played with or even seen the originals. Now for me I loved added articulation the moment it appeared with Actionmasters through g2 and BW and RID. And I loved the look of the UT toys (well not so much Energon) but became increasingly put off by their focus on other play features that got in the way of my fiddling. So a very near identical toy with added articulation at the expense of a spring loaded feature makes me very happy whether we're talking about Cybertron Hotshot or Missing Link Prime.

Vector Prime on the other hand I'm not sure I'm feeling.
He didnt really have an off putting play feature in the first place and had decent articulation. And his spaceship mode was awesome. New VP is suffering in the alt mode department. But robot mode does look really nice. I dont know, this feels like an "if I see it on sale" toy.

This reminds me my Vector Prime is missing his missile, but then buying a new one won't fix that because he won't have one either.

The moment of maximum despair for me was the comment by a designer on the last Pulse stream: "No missile but ankle tilts". Sums up all that is wrong with much of the toy industry at this time.
Except for Lego.
