A childhood favourite in the Burns household, recently picked up for £3 in FOPP. Pleasingly, it turned out to be just as fun as I remembered. Surprisingly, the film has been given a decent restoration job. I had feared it would be one of those films that would not stand up to adult eyes, but it was great! And the Morloks, frankly, are not in it enough! Well worth a viewing. I have the urge to read the original HG Wells novella again. I note that Penguin think they can charge £8 for a 90 page book! I think not!
Do avoid the 2002 film of The Time Machine though. It was so terrible that I bought booze as soon as I left the cinema.

The DVD of the 1960 film also features a docu from 1993, including a short scene forming a coda to the film. Despite an obvious miniscule budget and dodgy lighting, it's a nice capper. It can also be found online to watch from the producers website here: www.7thvoyageprod.com/tmjb.htmlIt's split up across a few segments. EDIT: The original HG Wells novella is online to read for free, along with other public domain works at this excellent website: www.pagebypagebooks.com/-Ralph

Many years ago I read the sequel novel to the Time Machine. It was called The Time Ships and was a massive book that was split up into about three or four novellas.

Ah, yes, the Stephen Baxter book, authorised by the Wells estate as the 'official' sequel. Published in 1995 to mark the centenery of the original. I remember it being decent.

I have ordered up the classic version of this film as you seem to think it is good Ralph. I hope I am not disappointed...
Ordered some other 50/60s sci-fi films with it as I vaguely remember some and would like to have a look at them again.

When I get round to it I will purchase the novel The Time Machine and maybe his other notable achievement The First Men In The Moon as I enjoyed the Ray Harryhausen movie of this.

I have been looking for Forbidden Planet as I reckoned the 2-disc 50th anniversary DVD would have come down in price by now, but no shop in Glasgow city centre carries it. I checked them all. Play doesn't have it either. I was most displeased. -Ralph

Amazon has the Deluxe edition for an eye-watering £50 while the single disc version is going pretty cheap.

It has been a long, long time since I have seen "The Time Machine", but I remember it making a big impression on me - indeed, it lead me to seek out the novella, and in due course "Things to Come". It is a good little film all told - and it does a decent job of capturing one of the things about the Time Travellers machine that is often forgotten (that it is basically a bicycle with knobs on).
The Novella is well -worth a read as well - but as Ralph says, £8 is a little absurd a price for it.

I also note that HMV have the 1960 Time Machine movie in for £3.
RE: 'Things to Come'. I remember seeing the movie when very young and being amazed by it. Not sure if I read it though.

I love the original. Great stuff. And I think the remake with the brilliant Guy Pearce is one of the best remakes ever.
