Also from past experience: avoid official DW social media on broadcast days. They like to post spoilers before an episode has even finished being shown. -Ralph Not a problem here - I don't even know that they are on Blusky yet, and if they are I haven't followed them there. What is Blusky? -Ralph

New alternative to twitter for those wishing to escape. It appears to be the Hub's preferred choice to jump ship to.

But a clone could do your work for you? If they were given the same education in order to allow them to develop the same skills and knowledge then... perhaps? Of course, this would be subject to the confounding factor that - unless raised in an artificial duplicate of the same social, physical and historical environment as the original the twin might develop different interests and therefore not have any interest in developing the same skill set, or following the same career path as the original. (1) This is before you get into the necessary time-periods to raise a duplicate to a similar age and educational level to take over from you... In short, possible with extraordinary effort and cost is not quite the same thing as reasonably practical... Karl (1) - See: Cyteen; Cherryh, C.J; (1988) for a broader discussion on the difficulty of recovering exceptional skill sets in genetic duplicates of individuals.

Out of curiosity, why _is_ this thread in Film and Television? It seems like an odd place for it to reside.
Not a complaint or anything. Just curious as to the history of how it got here.

It isn't now.
It *was* in TV because I spun it out of comments in the DW thread and plonked it in the same forum instead of thinking clearly, which is not something I've been too good at recently. Apologies

Apologies Ah! That makes sense. I see how it got their now. No apology needed. And you didn't have to move it. I was purely curious as to the chain of events that was all. My brain is in overanalytical mode after dealing with a couple of...interesting...problems at work. Karl

I've been on for a week or so. So, so different to the pit that X has become. A real breath of fresh air.
Plus there are tools there like Blocks that actually work, although I have had no reason to use them yet.

I've been on Bluesky for a little while now, and I have to say that it is a pretty decent environment. It has a proper following feed, where I see only things posted by those accounts I follow, and I can - and do - have that as my default view. If I want to see things from other accounts I don't follow I can do that, but I go to another feed for it so I don't get it shoved in my face. Admittedly, I sometimes get the feeling that I am still using social media "wrong" - given that I have an order of magnitude fewer followers than most people, and am also following an order of magnitude less. But then, one of my resolutions for this year was to drastically reduce my social media presence in general. And so far that is working out - I only really average a handful of short bursts of scrolling a day. Probably about 2.5/day during the week and about 2.75 at the weekend.
I do like the fact that the Block option on Bluesky is a full-scale strategic option. Whilst on Twitter folk I'd blocked would be able to see my posts, and leave replies to them that anyone else could see, on Bluesky at the moment anyone I block can no longer see my posts, and no-one at all can see their replies to them. It is a proper spring-loaded doormat feature, and I do love that.

Amused by the very carefully selected and "legal department approved" language by which they mention the Great Huff in which Jack Dorsey left. :-) I remember seeing a little bit of the dust cloud and it was very amusing watching him become very irrate that people weren't using it to discuss cryptocurrency and the blockchain as he intended it to be used, and that it was full of all the wrong sorts of users. It was rather entertaining watching him vanish in a great huff accompanied by a trail of cryptobro fellow travellers to pretty much a universal "don't let the door hit you on the keister on the way out". It has a proper following feed, where I see only things posted by those accounts I follow Once it reaches a level of userbase, eventually it'll be sold and this will all change with the need to monetise and profit. I give it 3 years.

I give it 3 years. Oh I'm sure it will. But in the meantime it has the functionality that suits me, and when that is no longer the case then there will be another start-up platform that folk will migrate to and I'll wash up there then. Or there won't, and I'll just stop. I mean, social media as we now know it wasn't around for a large chunk of my life, I can do another large chunk without. Karl
