Too much world building, not enough Statham vs giant sharks.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Merry Christmas everyone!
Still really struggling to feel it. Very unusual for me. Too much going on I think. Out at a local pub for a very overpriced dinner. I feel I'm going to end up drinking too much to compensate.

Merry Christmas all!
Huge roast dinner is over, and in an hour we all have to go watch Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty at the Deutsche Oper. Which will be an expensive thing to sleep through, but never mind!

Merry Christmas all! Huge roast dinner is over, and in an hour we all have to go watch Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty at the Deutsche Oper. Which will be an expensive thing to sleep through, but never mind! High culture, low culture, on Wednesday I was in Torquay with relatives and we went to the Christmas pantomime, not Sleeping Beauty but Beauty and the Beast. The jokes were corny, the slapstick well executed, the costumes colourful, and the songs were pillaged from all over the shop - Oliver!, the Monkees, The Greatest Showman, Austin Powers, Taylor Swift... Pinwig Will be enjoying some pantomime action in Jan when we visit the local arts centre. They're doing their first one. I try to make sure we support all the local theatre groups by attending.

One tries to be circumspect.
Although of course the finest pantomime experience ever was Nicola Bryant and Mary Tamm in Cinderella at the Gaumont Theatre Southampton in 1984.

I'm not sure Sleeping Beauty is so far removed from panto after today. The final act is all these little fairy tale pieces with dancers dressed as cats, little red riding hood and the wolf, etc. and hamming it up accordingly. And in this performance the witch was even danced by a male dancer! I did doze off a bit in the end though. It's definitely not nearly as engaging as either Swan Lake or The Nutcracker so didn't stand much of a chance on a day like today.
