Morning All!
It's Monday January 1st, New Year's Day - 2024 Week 1
Yesterday: Managed church OK, slept afternoon, decent evening, saw the New Year in watching the fireworks out the window from the comfort of bed. Pretty good day, especially by standards of the end of the last week.
Today: Leading 8am. Hopefully going to in laws Bungalow to look to see if Garage Roof is worth repairing
Pray Day goes OK, Sinuses, CMT, tummy and Head cope OK. Pray I sleep well tonight, getting off to sleep promptly. Pray we stay protected from the virus.
Have a good day, stay safe & well.

I think it's obvious what's 40 in 2024....
.... though I have just caught Search for Spock on 5 Action and realised that is too!

Oh I see. I was trying to think of something specific to this week.
Although I don't know how you'd pin Transformers down to a specific day. I guess I'd go for when the first issue of the comic went on sale, although the toys must have been around before that.

30th Anniversary for Macross Plus and Macross 7 too. (And the VF-19 still looks as young as she did 30 years ago, whilst I have an entirely new, grey-haired and jowly character model like I stumbled out of Macross II... :-) )

I won tickets to see Search for Spock in a local newspaper competition.
Last weekend was also the 40th anniversary of the UK release of Krull. The adverts for that on the back of the comics I'm currently reading helpfully list every cinema it was shown in.

Morning All!
It's Tuesday
Yesterday: Not too bad a day: Made it to in laws, yes garage will need considerable works, and then onto ASDA for some shopping but was very cold & tired when I got home for lunch. I was then forced to hide in my room as Pride & Prejudice was being watched ;-) Destiny of the Daleks and some older Attenborough.
Today: Liz is off for two nights away in Illminster before term starts - I'm hoping for a few days in London soon. J back to college. Indian for tea for J and I.
Pray Day goes OK, Sinuses, CMT, tummy and Head cope OK. Pray I sleep well tonight, getting off to sleep promptly. Pray we stay protected from the virus.
Have a good day, stay safe & well.

I am a student no more. I had returned to study in October but for various reasons have had to chuck it, in consultation with Mrs Ralph. The right decision. Finances mean no return until at least October 2025 and will see then. Had first decent night's sleep in months!
Two degrees will do for now.

Happy New Year, everyone! I would have said that yesterday, but for internet issues. I think it's obvious what's 40 in 2024.... .... though I have just caught Search for Spock on 5 Action and realised that is too! A lot of things turn 40 this year. A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Terminator, Gremlins, Karate Kid, The Never Ending Story, Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, Police Academy, Spinal Tap, Thomas the Tank Engine, Muppet Babies, Last Christmas (so it could be a tricky year for Whamageddon players), Band Aid, Apple Macintosh etc. Personally, I consider 1984 to be the best and one of the most important years for pop culture. Also, Virgin Atlantic and the famous Cold War boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

I always think of Beverly Hills Cop as 1985 cos that's when it came out here.
A quick internet search suggests start of December 84 US and end of January 85 UK.

I've always maintained 1984 is THE classic year, although 82 and 83 also have a lot of significant film releases. Any year around then has a strong argument for being the 'definitive' 80s year, but 84 seems to be where lots of things came together. Mike Oldfield released Discovery, Jarre did Zoolook and on a personal level it's when Iron Maiden released Powerslave, which was the album that completely changed my thinking about music.

The adverts for that on the back of the comics I'm currently reading helpfully list every cinema it was shown in. Two recorded-off-the-telly VHS tapes which shaped my childhood! In the case of Krull, missing the first five minutes which means that despite being intimately familiar with the rest of the movie I've only seen those opening minutes once.

A belated Happy New Year. Saw the New Year in with Gav, Lyndsay and Nick (and Tobey) and then saw Ralph and Jen on New Years Day.
My christmas present to Tobey was killed within half an hour of giving it to him, he is remorseless with stuffed toys. Lyndsay has given Suki a present, she has not tried to kill it, she has however, fucked it relentlessly.

All that matters is I now have a jumper like the one Bruce Willis wears in Die Hard 2: Die Harder.
Although this mild winter means I'm not getting to wear it as much as I'd like. Damn global warming!

Belated happy new year.
Been recuperating after a relatively brief bug last week, but one that hit right over my working days and which I made worse by giving myself very mild food poisoning.
Hopefully can get through this week without getting ill again.

Being 2 at this point in 1984 I dont have a lot of specific memories, though listening to Whams Wake me Up Before You Go-Go is very possibly one of my earliest memories (or not it could be from any point after 1984, but it feels early). And 14 years later I really got in to BitUSA and later still Springsteen generally, so big thumbs up for 1984 here.

Hard to say.
I thought all the Christmas day leftovers had been eaten, but now suspect one stuffing ball had survived and had just, just passed the do not eat threshold when I did infact eat it.
