It's the Marvel: February 1964 Omnibus I can't get my head round. Who wants to read a random single issue of lots of different comics all in a giant omnibus?

I can see the logic - having a snapshot of a particular time could be interesting from a social/historical or nostalgia standpoint. If I compared that to a point in time I'd be interested in, I'd probably buy something like that. A single volume of everything Marvel UK or IPC published in, say, February 1984. Yes, I'd buy that just to immerse myself in that time.

I can imagine it being readable if all the comics released that month contained self-contained standalone stories, but I'd find the omnibus a very frustrating read if it had Part 2 of a multi-part story in one comic followed by the final part of a completely different story in another comic, and then Part 1 of something else, and so on.

Maybe they're intending to do every month... it's just a different way of sorting the Epic collections.

Yes, there have been several of these 'monthly' Omnibus volumes. They do appeal to me.

Shit. I might need these.

Martin Most of the early 60's are all done in one stories, so you would be fine.

I am compiling a list of Omnibus volumes in print and coming soon that catch my eye.
2024 could be the year I go properly mental on Omnibii. Not Full Phil, but it could become a problem.
Epics are very nice, but Omnibii are immense.

I have a few on my list for this year, and also a potential house move in the not too distant future. These do not go well together!
I got New Warriors vol. 2 just before Christmas, so vol. 3 is on the list. Also Marvel Age and Alpha Flight, and I'd like to pick up the Busiek / Perez Avengers one that got a reprint last year.

Started ALPHA FLIGHT BY JOHN BRYNE. I am sure I have read the X-Men issues at the start in colour before. Maybe. Black and white, yes.

Phil: any chance the list of upcoming Omnibii can be pinned to the first post for ease of reference? And updated when stuff is announced? (Actually the same would be useful in the Epics thread: I can never keep track of what is coming out and when) Omnibii scratch the same itch Essentials did: big chunky volumes. I do like them, even more than Epics (sorry!). -Ralph

In both cases, DONE.
The Epics lists for each year already existed but you needed to have seen and bookmarked the pages, first post is much more sensible.
In both cases I know of later volumes currently without solid dates of other info that have been announced but are not yet in catalogues online. BIG update due shortly, will update then.

aaaaaaaa, that list has reminded me of more I wanted to pick up
I think I'll have to classify Spider-Man 2099 as either to pick up if it's deeply discounted or wait for them to Epic it.

It's page 239 in the Alpha Flight Omnibus before it gets to any issues of Alpha Flight.
It's a big book.

Rather annoyingly Panini have started referring to larger paperback trades as Omnibuses as well.
