Well. Blimey. The latest news regarding energy bills really is making me ditch a lot of hobby plans!

Had to cancel Titan Cybertron Metroplex today.
Pulse have bought the date fwd to 1st September and I can't afford £200 then :-(
However I don't think this has sell out written on it so maybe if things improve later in the year....

I reckon this one will hang around like Fort Max did. I can see sale prices in future.
Not for me though. No interest in this one.

I can't see a £200 toy doing well in the current economy. I expect steep discounts on this before too long.

Hmmm. Energy bills going up to average of £3000 from April. Yeah, much less toy buying at current prices. Need to save up a buffer for energy.

That's a Star Trek thing. They used to say that all the time.

You mean the transporter buffer. You can store people in there.

Indeed, but 'energy buffers' were also mentioned frequently. I'm sure of it.

Then you should know it's called the pattern buffer. Pattern buffer the vampire slayer, to give it its full name.

It's fair to say I completely failed to reign in TF spending in 2023 as much as I should have, given circumstances. I feel I should be more focussed in 2024 and just stick to certain sub-collections/lines. T'would help the budgeting!
Or maybe be a bit more ruthless with a monthly or quarterly budget total and just stick to it properly rather than my usual "just one more" weaknesses!
I do need to calm it down a bit with toys.

I have been tempted by some of them. For action figures though, I see more MOTU Origins figures in my future. Much cheaper than Transformers, especially as I am cutting back on spending. -Ralph Well that post aged well! I have mostly dropped out of MOTU Origins as it has become a tad too pricey to keep up with. Just a Snake Mountain to get and then I am probably done. -Ralph

I was saying similar things about Origins and then it just didn't happen, I think partly down to the non-availability of figures I particularly wanted (Leech!) but my interest just kind of petered out generally after a bit of a nostalgia rush with the first few figures I got.
I haven't really much choice but to calm it down a bit next year as I subsidised this year when I found out I could make a surprising amount of money by selling off a big chunk of my 25th anniversary (and on) GI Joe collection.

A sensible desire to spend less on Transformers really manifested itself in action today.
As I get most of my new Transformers wholesale and can usually order in singles, I find it too easy to preorder for myself without thinking about the consequences. In recent months, I've been cutting back, taking greater consideration over whether I actually want each release. Or, more accurately, if I want it enough to want it at that cost. When Tigerhawk was solicited, I was in two minds but was swayed when I saw the more screen accurate colours. However, when it arrived, I realised that I really didn't find it desirable enough even at the trade cost. So it went out on the shelf instead. It would go nicely with my TM2 Megatron, so hopefully I'll find it cheap at some point.
Gears may go the same way. I've preordered a few for the shop but am taking a wait-and-see attitude for myself as I like the idea of having him but I'm not really taken by him from the stock images.

When it clicked in my head that for certain characters I already own (or have owned and would like to reaquire) versions that are 'good enough', it suddenly became easier to buy less new stuff. Fun money is a lot less than it used to be so being a lot more picky too.
This is not a bad thing.

Concept Megatron and Legacy Windblade have both come into the shop recently, both of which I ordered purely for stock, not for myself. I had no second thoughts while putting them on the shelves.

*reads Sandstorm review* Ooof! Oh dear oh dear. -Ralph Nice. A Leader class toy that seems to be slightly smaller than the previous Voyager incarnation of the character and which has assembly issues out of the box. That'll get them flying off shelves! I was thinking to myself that the step up from voyager to leader for him seems a bit steep, but then I realised in my head I was still pricing voyagers at £24. Then I thought £35? £56? This hobby is getting way too expensive.

This is why I mostly wait for sales, though I do wonder if production runs are being tightened up. The new Armada Prime? No chance. Gone everywhere.
