This is why I mostly wait for sales, though I do wonder if production runs are being tightened up. The new Armada Prime? No chance. Gone everywhere. -Ralph And that had a rerun which sold out on preorder! I suspect the tide is shifting

I am having that Soundwave Thunder Machine come hell or high water.

Yes, this has been discussed a lot on the podcasts for a while. That JTPrime chap who always seems to know just about everything has said production runs are smaller, which started back last year. He said Nemesis is an example - the production run was only just larger than the retail orders, so there aren't any warehouses full of them hanging about for sales. He also said if you want Tidal Wave, pre-order it.

The Soundwave Thunder Machine seems to be sitting at full price so I still feel confident about a sale. Still waiting on the 2nd JP crossover going cheap too! -Ralph

In no small thanks to this thread I've preordered the only Mayhem set that seems to still be available. Need to source the Insecticon set from somewhere now.

I am having that Soundwave Thunder Machine come hell or high water. Yeah. Missed out on Armada Prime as had assumed it would go on sale. Aye, likewise. It's a shame to miss it, but I need that money more than I need that nice Prime, alas. (It *is* very nice looking, though...) The Soundwave Thunder Machine seems to be sitting at full price so I still feel confident about a sale. Yeah, I have some hope that this one will get something of a reduction. Still don't think this one's selling massively well. Which just goes to show the public don't know what they're doing. (Unless they're doing exactly the same thing we're doing.)

I noticed Armada Prime was selling out everywhere at the weekend and the secondary market prices are already shooting up. Sad times.
My trigger finger is currently wavering over a full-price one I found, but it feels like a lot given how much the commanders are usually reduced. The only one I paid near-full-price for was Siege Jetfire (though I was probably right to as even the reissue of it is silly money already).

I think a new thread along the lines of 'my goodness aren't some toys really expensive now' would be more apt in this case. That's a very different line of argument than 'cost of living means I can't/won't buy at full price'.
I didn't buy Armada Prime at £92 RPP because I thought it wasn't worth that amount.
Nowt wrong with a bit of thread drift anyway.

That's a very different line of argument than 'cost of living means I can't/won't buy at full price'. I dunno, the two are quite closely linked. Given my monthly running costs have gone up by at least five Commander Class toys I think it's safe to say that without the gift of Trussonomics I'd be a little more capable of getting an Armada Prime, and maybe a little less worried about the price. (Although I will always be annoyed by Deluxes costing more than a tenner, mind you...)

To be fair to them, once they knew there was a problem they resolved it without quibble very quickly. The issue seems to be that they either lose or don't receive some emails.

If it ever crops up on a sale I'll be up for this. Doubtful it will given the latest practices. Likewise. And, indeed, alas, likewise. As discussed elsewhere, I think we're transitioning into an era where the big ticket items will be limited run and buy at full price or miss out. As much as we'd like stuff cheaper I'm not sure we can blame Hasbro for reducing their run size so there's less stock clogging up warehouses that ends up clearanced! I'd like a Nemesis, and would have bitten at double digits, but I'm not sure I've seen it sub £150 Magmatron was £87 from Star. Like last year's Armada Prime he feels like he's decent value and he is a big chunky chap.

As incomes drop and toy prices go sky high (and they do less) I demand more from high-ticket items. I personally feel that anything above £50 should do loads of stuff and pass on if it doesn't (unless it ends up cheaper later on): another reason why my TF buying has now declined. I'm probably still spending the same overall on toys, but more on other lines. It's much easier to impulse buy a sub-£3 basic assort Hot Wheels car or a £10-20 action figure than a TF costing £80+.
If companies want to move to a model of 'buy big ticket items as soon as they come out or lose out.' I find myself shrugging and going: "nah!".
Like Phil, I would have liked a Nemesis, but it didn't drop to a reasonable price for what it is. Just one of those things.
I also don't have infinite money at all times for all hobbies. I need new specs in the summer and some home improvements in the fourth quarter of the year, and so on.
