Didnt see one for this year.
Thought I should make one.
Busy year for me so far.
1. Springsteen - Kilkenny. My tenth E Street band show. Setlist was great. They played Priest which Ive been wanting to hear since letter to You was released 4 years ago. Downbound Train was on the setlist which Ive wanted to hear for... 22 years, but was pulled for an audible, but that was literally the only disappointment. The venue was tiny by stadium standards meaning our side of stage seats were closer to the stage than some of the pit.
2. Eagles - Manchester. A visit to the new Co-op arena. Pretty nice, kinds disorganised. Dad really wanted to see the Eagles but didnt want to go by himself so when some weirdly cheap tickets showed up (in almost exactly the same position as the Springsteen ones) I grabbed them. Eagles were great, but if anything I was more impressed by The Doobie Brothers. Couldnt have told you even one of their songs a couple of weeks back, but knew a bunch of them and they were fantastic.
3. Tenacious D - Leeds. Find myself in the odd position of thinking they are amazing musician/performers, but not being that in to a lot of their music. They put on one hell of a show. And Tribute remains imperious.
Stretching he definition of "gig" but as a live performance I'll stick at the bottom
4. Player Kings - 84 year old Ian Mckellen just bossing it for 3 bloody hours. Very happy that this happened to be on the night before TFN Minicon. Mckellen is not messing around when he says he want theatre to be accessible/affordable to everyone. Our tickets were £13.50.

I haven't gigged this year yet! Terrible state of affairs. Do have a few lined up over the summer though, local affairs with the smaller back of the pub crowd.

Hnnngh.
I had a gig booked for the 19th of July. Turns out, no, it's the 19th of June and I am now in a bit of a flap trying to get ready for it...

So yeah...
1. TTSSFU - Mannequin Pussy Noisy grungey sort of punk noise. It's interesting how many people I look at and think 'old man' are coming to these shows which are fronted by young women. Fortunately Mannequin Pussy are an angry feminist sort of band so at least one of these dudes stomped out in a sulk after being told off for talking over the singer midway through the set. Does the soul good.

1. TTSSFU - Mannequin Pussy 2. Morderstein
Rammstein cover band in the back of the local. All the scaled down pyrotechnic sparklers you could possibly want, just a shame some folks who'd got a bit beered up with the football decided to turn the mosh pit into actual violence. Ah well.

1. TTSSFU - Mannequin Pussy 2. Morderstein 3. Lowdrive - Warrior Soul
Just... yes. High energy, psuedo-political (how are songs angry about things from 30 years ago still relevant now?), dumb as bricks punk rock and I loved it.

1. Taylor Swift - Wembley. The lady knows how to put on a show. Her fans are terrifying (in the friendliest way possible - kind of like a Moopsie, but completely not) I think they made the loudest noise Ive ever heard like 3 seperate times.
Paramore on support were excellent and as much of a draw for my as Swift. Missed one song I would have liked to hear while on a water run, but oh well.
2. Springsteen - Wembley. For Swift I was almost as far back as I could get and fractionally behind the stage. For Bruce I got in the pit early and got myself central and near the front. Meant hours of queuing and more hours standing on the pitch before the show started and I frequently asked myself and others if it was all worth it. Then the show started and yes, yes it very much was. On balance not as good a show as Kilkenny but the atmosphere in the pit levels it. Plus a rare (-ish if you didnt go to the Broadway show) sighting of Patti and a performance of Tougher than the Rest.

Before covid we used to go to lots of gigs but now they're off the menu almost completely. But I went to 1. Unorthodox Paradox festival in June, no inside shows, not many people, no bands I had ever heard of. It was great! I hope I can do another gig this year, not getting to see live music is a major cause of sadness for me. I'd go to outdoors gigs at Cardiff Castle but they've all been uninspiring, really fing expensive, or both.
I would have liked to see Mannequin Pussy, I quite like them.

I'm supposed to be at a gig tonight, but I doubt I'm well enough to make it.

1. TTSSFU - Mannequin Pussy 2. Morderstein 3. Lowdrive - Warrior Soul 4. Linkin Park
Livestream of the new band lineup. It was surprisingly emotional, and they sounded good. Hopefully a proper tour in 2025 and not just the one-off London show that's been announced for a couple of weeks time...

I'm really conflicted about that. I think it's great the band want to go on now and do new stuff, but the new singer sounds like a Chester tribute act and listening to her sing the old songs is doing weird things to my head. I'm down for a new album with new material and a new direction, the last few LP albums have all been radically different anyway, so I'll listen, but I'm not sure I'm inclined to want to see them live now. Not like before where we never missed a tour.

I'm willing to give it a shot, because it does seem like this is the whole band on board, as opposed to some other bands that have been on the legacy circuit for years now. New song is good, so I'm hopeful. I only saw the old Linkin Park the once, so I'll take the opportunity if it comes along.

Remember that time there was a Linkin Park version of Soundwave? -Ralph Yes, and I was always disappointed at how dull it was, considering that at least two of the band are street artists.

Broke a cardinal rule and skipped most of the opener because I wasn't sure my asthma was up to a full gig experience, but Therapy? blew the roof off. Amazing.
