I've just thought of something that is glaringly obvious, but I don't recall ever being discussed anywhere before. . .
The Autobot Matrix of Leadership is passed on from one 'Prime' to another.
Before the '86 Movie, nobody knew who, or even if at all, Optimus would eventually pass down the Matrix to.
Hell, we didn't even know Prime was going to bite it!
So, something I don;t recall ever being mentioned before is, does EVERY Autobot have a Matrix Chamber and the potential to become a Prime, or is it that Hot Rod and Magnus conveniently just happened to have one, because 'Plotline'?

Never concretely explained in the show, but given that Rodimus when he thought he was about to die and Magnus was gone said Springer should get the Matrix then I suspect all the Autobots can house the Matrix. Scourge was able to take into himself as well, although he did go a little lumpy!

With a race of shape changing robots it could just be that of they are about to have it passed to them they can reconfigure their internals to make a space for it on demand.

Why didnt Magnus become Ultra Prime? The matrix makes the body alter when gets in range. ie Space pirates Goes back to Hotrod when out of range so no chamber but Simon never showed this

Micromasters didn't exist in Sunbow Continuity. I wonder how that could have went if the show had went to a 5th season.

What about Micromasters? Martin Obviously, if they were the chosen one (which only Hot Rod is) they would open the Matrix and grow into a new bigger body and job done. Saying that, I'd have loved Rodimus to be on his deathbed in a series 5 and pass the Matrix onto a Micromaster, who would ask "Why me? I am not worthy!" Only for Rodimus to respond with "I know, but it will be hilarious!" |

But with Magnus having a matrix chamber already, could just be the writer just knowing that his toy had white Prime so they just decide he had same build

For micromasters who aren’t the chosen one, couldn’t the matrix just change size? If a comparative nonentity like Frenzy can do it, shrinking shouldn’t be much of a barrier to the Matrix itself, especially if we see it more as a computer program / sacred life force than a physical object.
In fact, don’t micromasters themselves expand when they change into normal-sized vehicles? They could store the Matrix in the same place as all the excess bits of car, plane, etc.
