Okay, so I like the reimagining of modern villains to fit the golden age original style

On board for a period era Batman.
It's honestly when the character best works, he's an awkward fit for the modern era, but that pre US entering the war, organised crime in it's pomp period - just perfect.

Full series available now on Prime. Have to give it a go this weekend, I think.

Four episodes in and loving it.
Episode 4, pausing 23 minutes 28 seconds in... Why is the Gotham Gazette written in Latin?

I haven't seen the show yet. But I could hazard a guess as to why it _might_ be. There is a very famous piece of Latin text called Lorem Impsum that is used as placeholder text in page layout design and has been since time immemorial. It is kind of the "default piece" for "text goes here" situations. It wouldn't surprise me if someone working on the show had put it in there as a bit of an inside joke.

Finished all episodes.
Top notch quality from start to finish - just my cup of tea, that.

Just watched the first episode. Really enjoyed it - very much my kind of Batman show. Definitely feels like it is leaning into the idea of the character as a Masked Crimefighter. It's got a very 1930s vibe which I think really works, and I love that they have set out their stall early so far as "we are happy to reinterpret iconic characters". I think this is going to be an enjoyable watch.

At episode five now - yeah, I am very much enjoying this. I'm loving that we get nods to the early designs for a lot of the characters [spoilers] I want to high-five whomever it was went "Catwoman. Well, the original look is basically fine innit? [/Spoilers], but on the other hand folk like the Gordon's are very much this shows own thing and not that much like what we've had before. I love how matter-of-fact their being about Montoya's sexuality too. It isn't a plot-point, it isn't a reveal. She just dates women because she's a Lesbian, and the show doesn't really treat it as any different than Selina and Bruce having chemistry. It's just part of the character, in the same way as her being a cop. I'm enjoying the structure too - there is definitely a sense of an over-arching b-plot slowly clicking into place behind the episodes, but not in a way that bogs it down or really draws huge attention to itself in the first half. I'm liking that we are getting individual A-plots in each episode with things that are steadily building up something that is going to come to the fore later I suspect. It's a hard thing to do - especially in these days of more and more streaming shows being structured like a single "feature" plot with diversions along the way to pad it out to the desired length. This could entirely work on an episode a week format - very "snackable" TV, but with payoffs if you were around for previous episodes. Really good stuff. Karl
