As we, er, have less staff now...the previously 'all booked up' leave calender for Friday the 4th was now clear. So booked the day off.
Means we can travel down at a more reasonable time/pace.

As I will not hear anything further regarding my job situation until 23rd October, and I refuse to live with a constant eye of the damoclesean sword hanging above my head, I have made an executive decision that I will be attending this year.
I have weighed the pros of being extremely cautious with my money, against the cons of missing out on seeing a lot of friends, excellent feats of brick engineering, and a most excellent lunch and I have decided that the downsides of not coming far outweigh any marginal advantages.
It turns out I also had annual leave left from last year which I need to burn before the end of October (as we can only carry it over for two months), so I have been able to turn it into a long weekend off work.
