Yes, the recent wind up Zoids toys looked really good (I think there was a tortoise cannon..?), but I was put off by the fact that the pilots rode on top of the Zoids, instead of in little cockpits, like a true Zoid.

What have I become..?

I'm not sure what to make of this. Zoids were one of my favourite childhood toys besides Transformers and Lego and I'm sure I must have imagined transforming Zoids. In fact, I actually did have two knock-off Jumpstarters that had removable Zoid-based heads and tails. But now that I see it actually done, it feels like it should be a case of never the twain shall meet. Maybe it's the choice of Zoid. Though I loved Chaotic Century, a Liger just doesn't hold a nostalgic appeal for me.

A few years back I grabbed Zoids Mega Battlers Ruin and Tanks (Tanks being the Turtle). They've been a cupboard unbuilt, but checking the box I see they need a battery rather than use a wind up motor

Battery powered Zoids are nothing new: The Giant Zrk was the first followed by Zoidzilla/Gojulus, Gorgan/Gordos, Mammoth & Krark/Salamander - all Zrk retools/parts reuses. Red Horn, Gore (Iron Zong), Scavenger, Zaber (Sabre Fang) & the Shield Liger followed by the Shield Liger, which didn't get a European release. There's a number of additional battery powered original Japanese release Zoids that didn't make it to the UK.

Not vastly used as for the majority of the time this version of the forum has been operating there's been little out that anyone has wanted: just a high end non motorised line and a line with larger pilots that was promised a release here and never got it
