DC's latest Direct to DVD animation is out.
I've seen it and while the animation is impressive, the lack of story (it's comprised of six short sequences) loosely tied together means it's somewhat underwhelming.
It does have Kevin Conroy reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman which is always welcome and as Alfred we are treated to David McCallum whose performance is somewhere between Michael Caine and Efrem Zimbalist Jr (Alfred in the 90's Batman shows) - which is a welcome treat.
The first short story showcases a very Mike Mignola look for Batman which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Part of the disconnect in the stories comes from the 2nd installment when it looks like Boss Maroni is near death and heading for jail if he survives but in a later installment he is just fine and dandy.
Well worth watching the once just to appreciate the eye candy but not an essential DVD purchase unless the animation is to your taste.

I thought it was well made but ultimately very bland and forgettable. Very pretty, but the scripts fell very flat for me. Nice to hear Conroy in the role again.

I agree. With Adam West a very close second. Then Christian Bale.

Ah, yes. Bob Sessions did indeed do a fine and distinctive job on Knightfall, from what I recall. His Batman voice was what I heard when reading comics until I saw some of the cartoons with Conroy.
What series features Dark Knight Returns Batman?

The Gotham Knights era of Batman:The Animated Series. It also has a 50's Batman segment with the Joker looking like the Dick Sprang version of him.
