I've been getting back in the habit of doing warm-up sketches of late and have been having some fun doing them. So I'm going to post them here every so often. Fellow artists join me in this and let's have a look at some of the rough cuts we don't generally share with the world. Kicking things off is a Transformers related sketch I did about three weeks ago, it's of Thunderclash done in a Jack Kirby style. Andy

From yesterday a couple of sketches which I took further than the pencil stage. First up The Gronk from Strontium Dog fame. Then secondly Kyle Rayner, one time last of the Green Lantern. Andy

KirbyKlash looks great, man! And I love the stylised shading on GL's gauntlets.
You'll shame me into this exercise yet, Turnbull. Good work.

Cheers! The shading comes from looking at not much other than the awesome works of Mick McMahon of late.
Look forward to seeing some of your stuff too.

I do love the current Green Lantern comics BUT I also loved the idea that Hal did genuinely turn evil.
I think I am the only one who feels like that.

Nope, I liked it too. His home town and almost everyone he knew was vapourised. It was just a bit too sudden, needed a few more issues worth of stories. But on rereading back the GL stories from issue 19-43, they were building up to a big change with Hal anyway. They explained away the wandering years and he was becoming a bit more aggressive and take charge.
Plus we got the Kyle Rayner era, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Was discussing over on tfarchive the hellish fact that a collected edition of Miracleman isn't available due to the ongoing rights issue that has been rumbling on for years now. Thought about designing a cover that would allow someone to scan stuff and release via POD without making money of course. Did this in a few minutes. Andy

It is one of those few things where owning the scans isn't that dodgy, because it will likely never be reprinted. Here's hoping though!

I know I have several of the issues, always trying to track them down and the trade of Gaiman's first arc on the title. Wonderful book and I agree I don't feel bad owning the scans as I know the minute a nice collection of the issues came out I would be all over it. Alternate version with the Double M Andy
