Next Saturdays installment is indeed a 2 parter called "The Coming of Arthur". Since we know there's a Season 4 commisioned, I reckon there will be a satisfying finale/cliffhanger. Arthur and Merlin retrieve a magic artifact on a mission, however they are captured by a slave trader known as Jarl. Rescued by Gwaine, the artifact falls into the hands of Morgause and Morgana, can they be stopped? And the synopsis for part 2 sounds even more exciting... Morgana has been crowned Queen of Camelot, and brings about its downfall. Arthur forms a resistance against the new monarchy, Merlin believes he'll struggle and goes to retrieve Excalibur. Can the new monarchy be stopped? Freya returns? |

That's what I'm talkin' about.
I know what you mean, but I expected it to feel more rushed than it did, given how much was in this one episode. They lingered nicely over the round table / knighting scenes.

What a brilliant season finale! I thought Gaius was going to be killed off at a couple of points, but glad he's survived.
Oh boy was Uther messed up!
The Round Table stuff dragged on a bit, but it was justified. Its been something we've waited 3 years for. |

So will I!  I should be seen; the dialogue seemed vital to the plot so it doesn't seem likely the scenes will be cut, but there were multiple camera angles so it'll be down to the editing, I suppose. If you like, I can tell you which number episode to look out for me in, but then, the broadcast order is sometimes different to production order. |

Just background. I was in a scene with Arthur and Gaius, another with Merlin and Gwen. (Actually I'm not sure if I was in two scenes with Merlin, or two bits of the same scene.)

Decent enough ep. It could have done with a recap at the start, I had completely forgotton the end of series 3 and was quite confused.
I also could have done without the 'evil uncle' bit. That's so obvious and cliched I groaned. Come on!!

Agrivane is supposed to be a good guy IIRC. I want some more explanation to why he's in cahoots with certain people.
A recap of the season finale would have been helpful, I agree. I wonder of the Knights of the Round Table are sticking around or going to be recurring guest stars.

The 'old merlin' makeup looks awful too (though I'm not sure the technology exists to make a man in his 20s into a convincing 80 year old). I wish they'd stop using it, though I imagine they're trying to get their money's worth.
I don't like the character of Evil Uncle, it is too horribly cliched. Any hope that it would be a subversion of the trope was quashed when he did away with the king.
How did Evil Uncle know that his sister died from magic though? I thought the only people who knew where the king and Victor Meldrew. If the king had told him, he'd hardly have him hanging about because he knew he'd be gunning for him. That just struck me as a bit odd.

Right right, and why the HELL did no-one say at the end 'Hey Arthur look, here is a magical pendant enchanted by Morgaine, this is what really killed your father, she must be either working with the assassins or has a mole in Camelot, now you know to be careful and watch out"

I was wondering if Merlin DVDs have deleted scenes. They pretty much cut out a whole subplot about the sickness - I was one of the sick villagers - which seemed to be the episode's main plot, going by the dialogue in those scenes, but it obviously wasn't. It would have been nice to have actually appeared on screen for my first job, especially as I didn't have any photos from it, but never mind. |
