Is it just me or is this getting silly now? Above lots of little 5-10p increases here and there, I'm noticing some items (dairy, meat) jumping up 40-50p some weeks. I had a bit of a Falling Down moment when I found that chicken was now double the price of cheese this morning in my local!

I never really buy food. Usually eat Macdonalds or Chinese take out. Or Japanese. Restaurant prices are now rising noticably- though with food being more expensive, can't really fault 'em. I just compensate by raising my own prices... And on the cylce goes - until inflation eats up everything and everyone Still - no where near as bad as what I remember in Poland in the early 90s. My Transformer comics were a good indication of what hyper inflation looked like back then. I paid - say - 37,000 Polish zloties for the Feburary Issue... and then two months later (they were bi-monthly) - the next instalment would cost twice that I think it got up to one million Polish Zloties a month for a tranformer comic before they jettisoned their failed currency and "started over." ... In any event - I do remember having lots of Million Zloty bills at one point and being able to get maybe one little TF and a Cheesburger for it We're not there yet Pete

Yesterday I noticed my chocolate biscuits that I buy went up 9p a pack and the white chocolate I like went up 8p. For some reason though the crisps I buy went down 6p for a packet of 6.

Zimbabwe recently had their own hyperinflation problems:
From xe.com... "Notice: The Zimbabwe government redenominated the ZWD on August 1, 2008 at a rate of 10,000,000,000 old ZWD to 1 new ZWD. No new currency code has been issued, but the old ZWD currency remains legal tender until December 31, 2008."
Back to food prices... Erm, yeah. I'm always surprised at how little food I have in my grocery bag when I've paid about £25.
My cod+chips from the takeaway I've been using for 12 years used to be £2.30. It's now £4.50.

This evening, I noticed that poppadoms had doubled in price since last week. That's insane.

I had a similar moment of clarity on Sunday. I'm sure that Mcvities digestives have jumped from 65p to 99-ish pence in Sainsburys in the last month or two.
