Not fully sure how to go about it, so I thought I'd start a general Rememberance Sunday thread for those who want to post comments and dedications. This dude is my Grandad who went out there in WW2, his comrades called him Paddy Mike because of his Irish temper.

Great idea, Hero.
God rest their souls:- My Grandfather was captured in Germany and was a POW for 3 years or something before he was freed by the Americans. My other Granddad served on the Merchant Navy. And my Great Uncle fought in Burma. Both my Grandmothers worked in factories. I can't image.

my great uncle took out a german panzer with a grenade, then hitchiked back to England after the war, I think he may be dead now though, so can't verify this story but I think its true. My other great uncle also in the army, died in a motorcycle accident after the war while racing with ex-army men in the wembley lions, he was known as 'Bronco' Wilson. My Grandad was in the RAF/Navy and spent his whole time in South Africa drinking and visiting strip clubs occasionally, and was nicknamed 'Boss' and was only attacked once while on the Argos between Malta and England by the Germans. He's still alive, 94 now! They were all Jordies.
thats a cool name Paddy Mike lol, and you look a bit like him too Hero!
I think this is a nice thread, one to remmeber the people really, not the war.

Both my father and grandfather served in the Black Watch so I always make time for both Remembrance Sunday and the silence on the 11th November. I know Grandad served in WW2 but he didn't talk much about it and I never asked.
Dad thankfully missed out on serving in any actual wars but did do some rather perilous tours of duty in NI at the height of the troubles.

I'm not aware of any relatives having served in wars, but I have no problem marking time for Remembrance. The efforts of fighting men and women have influenced all our lives.

Both of my grandfathers were in reserved occupations during the Second World War - one was a Cattle man and one, I believe worked for the War Office doing...things that my father never seemed entirely clear about. So to date none of my family that I am aware of have served in uniform. Growing up not far from a military base, and amongst a fair number of forces folk has given me a profound respect for those people who choose to serve though. I've always felt it to be right to remember the sacrifices on all sides.
