So courtesy of the library, I am currently reading copious amounts of Trek novels. There is a moment of sheer joy in 'No Time Like The Past' by Greg Cox which is one of the ones which is more in the pastiche style of the 60's episodes than anything more challenging but there's a place for that kind of thing. Anyway, eeeeeeeeeevil Orion pirates are storming the Enterprise bridge and one of them tosses a grenade at Uhura. She promptly tosses it back at the eeeeeevil pirate who has one of the most amusing 'I'm fooked' exclamations from a doomed evil minion I've seen in a while.
"HELL'S BALLS!" he cries before exploding.

Via Amazon just received the complete TNG Bluray boxset. The entire 7 seasons come in the two biggest clamshell cases I've ever seen.
4 wholes seasons in one case.
To think 20 years ago I would have been able to fit two vhs tapes with four episodes on in the same shelf space as I can now fit 4 seasons.

The Chicago Town stuffed crust Pizzas are a thing of joy. Unlike other frozen pizza they even taste good cold the next day.

Straying back on topic, even though I did catch most of the first two seasons on TV, I am again blown away by the remastering.

Watching the one with all the 1s and 0z in the title. Watching the Enterprise dock at the space station just looks phenomenal, every bit as good as equivalent TOS movie scenes from the same period which I have always considered the peak of pre CG spaceship shots.

So the episodes are great, they look brand new, even if the remaster is a bit ropey in season 2. But the extras are more than worth the money on their own. At about 7-10 hours per season theres a lot to get through. Contemporary interviews and behind the scenes stuff. Extras from 2000-2002 for the DVD releases and then the new stuff for the Blurays.
Individually the different sets are entertaining and informative, but comparing the different periods is fascinating. Views from cast and crew at the start of the show when everyone is selling the show then towards the end of TNG lifespan around the last movie and then a decade on when memories may have faded, but everyone can be far more honest about what was happening.
Great stuff.
Oh and extended Measure of a Man. 20 years after All Good Things watching 13 minutes of brand new TNG is a joy.
Oh oh oh, Star Trek Phase 2 footage. Even just test footage is amazing to see. For the first time I can see what it would have looked like, a strange mix between TOS and The Motion Picture. Shame they couldnt have made a series or two before deciding the future was movies.

Harve Bennett was a good producer, the sort of person integral to getting things made but who people never really think about. His work on the Star Trek movies was a darn good job. He will be missed.

Indeed. Considering her personal history and how hard she had worked on turning her life around it is somehow that bit more of a shame.

So I read the third in the apparently never-ending RISE OF THE FEDERATION series before diving into the DEPARTMENT OF TEMPORAL INVESTIGATIONS series...all by the same author. One non-stop cavalcade of continuity porn and Deltans with super sex powers. I may have broke myself
