I stumbled across some clips of Man Stroke Woman on YouTube and tuned into the series on BBC3. It's a hilarious comedy show featuring Nick Frost (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz).

I am muchly enjoying the Top Gear repeats on Dave. Now if only they'd show te race to the Swiss ski resort....
Look out for the next time they show the Italian Supercars for 10K episode - some of it's filmed down the road in Marlborough !

I can't get the Dave channel, which is annoying, though not as annoying as the deteriorating quality of my BBC4. It's been completely unwatchable a few days. The Beeb's interactive channels are also unwatchable.

That's odd - I had a similar problems a few weeks back. Was sorted by adjusting and cleaning the contacts on my aerial leads.

"Horrors! One lemon! Double horrors! Two lemons! And if it's a third lemon, an inescapable 50,000 Volts! Can you bear to watch? Tune in tomorrow: Same Bat-time! Same Bat-channel!"
Plus, the hilarity of Batman holding a dozen quiet and well-behaved high school students at bay from approaching and playing with the Batmobile, using a megaphone. "Sorry, students! Robin isn't with me today!"
I'll miss tomorrow's episode, sadly. Sigh!

I missed last week's second episode but remembered to set the timer for the Friday repeat (though it was shown before the first for some reason). Thankfully my BBC4 is working now - well as much as it used to anyway. How will they escape? I can't wait to find out, but I doubt it'll top last week - "It's simple really, I just held my breath". "Holy frogman!"

Why is the Batman series not on DVD?

I dunno, I don't think Warner Bros would want anything to detract from the serious Batman film franchise they have, especially with The Dark Knight on it's way.

I think it's some complicated rights issues which is why only the movie is available. Apparently that 'Return to the Batcave' film (that I really must see) only features clips from the movie as well.

Why is the Batman series not on DVD? Warner own Batman, Fox own the TV series. They would need to come to an agreement before releasing it on DVD. No idea why they haven't, it would sell.

Best episode yet, tonight.
"But I destroyed the Batmobile!"
"No, you only destroyed my false, inflatable Batmobile that I had prepared for just such a situation!"
(For those without Freeview, the false inflatable Batmobile looks and sounds and drives just like the real Batmobile, even down to the living, breathing drivers, and when it is blown up in a puff of green smoke it leaves a perfect wireframe skeleton of a Batmobile.)
"Why is a right-handed Commissioner Gordon holding his handkerchief in his left hand? It must be False-Face!"
"You're right!"
Next week, according to page 110 of the Radio Times, "Robin has his hands full with Catwoman".

"You haven't fasterned your safty bat-belt Robin!" There were plenty of great lines tonight, but I forgot them all due to... "you can brush my girl thingy..." There were some other words on the end of that but I was too busy spurting my drink everywhere to hear what they were. And Julie Newmar. Phwoar! edit: I see we have a censor in place then

"You haven't fasterned your safty bat-belt Robin!" "But it's only a couple of blocks, Batman." "Yes, but a couple of years from now you'll be old enough for a driver's licence, and then you'll be able to drive the Batmobile and other vehicles. Remember, safety first!" "Gee, when you put it that way..." Fantastic. Martin

Although sadly spoiled by adverts The Shadow was shown on ITV4 on Monday and Tuesday.
Fantastic film, always enjoyable and I really should get around to buying it on DVD.

Strange freeview experience last night. So on BBC4, Batman and Robin escape being shot thanks to bullet proof soles on their boots! Yes...lets bullet proof just the boots.
Then a few hours later on Family Guy (BBC3): Mayor Adam West:I have a tiny bullet proof sheild, the exact same size as a bullet somewhere on my body, and if you hit it I'll be unharmed and your plan will be foiled!

Next Monday (17 Dec.), at 9 pm, Film4 are showing Pan's Labyrinth, in Spanish with English subtitles. You know how Hollywood and Disney films keep trying to market their latest offerings as a new 'twist' on the classic fairy tale, and it's always crap? This is the genuine article. Very dark and brutal, and yet very beautiful at the same time, contrasting the harsh realities of the Spanish civil war with the enticing (and yet also threatening) magical world. Great music, great acting (I was going to say particularly from the young lead, but every performance is top class). Also, one of the few foreign language films to make it into the Internet Movie Database's Top 50 films of all time. If you don't have Freeview (or already own it on DVD), get round the house of someone who does. Martin

Returning you to our usual service:
Dick: "It sure is harder doing this jigsaw with the pieces upside-down." Bruce: "Yes, but remember, it's good training for your visual memory." Dick: "Gosh, you're right!"
Woman 1: "It's Batman!" Woman 2: "Crime sure is rampant these days!"
Batman: "They're stealing the Maharaja!" Robin: "With a fork-lift! Quick! Do an emergency Bat-turn!" Batman: "No, Robin. We must think of the golfers. That would burn up the course for a hundred yards."
Joker: "My funny ray has neutralised the gadgets in your utility belt for at least an hour!"

To be sure, Pan's Labyrinth isn't easy to watch. Whether it be the giant toad vomiting himself inside-out, the leg amputation, the Pale Man biting the heads off the fairies, the stutterer's interrogation or the fascist captain sewing up his torn cheek, it avoids all that Hollywood gloss that makes us numb to (or even entertained by) violence and brutality in, to choose a recent Hub example, Schwarzenegger-type action films.
But while it pulls no punches on the unpleasant stuff, the film is also brimming with compassion, courage and heroism, on the parts of Ofelia, Mercedes and the doctor. And it has a happy ending (tinged with sadness), for which it has been criticised for some history buffs, since in the Spanish civil war the rebels weren't really so successful.
There are also some beautiful scenes untouched by strife, such as Ofelia making the acquaintance of the fairy, Ofelia resting her head on her mother's stomach and telling her unborn brother the story of the flower of immortality in a forest of poisoned thorns, the magical book revealing its exquisite contents, and the architecture of the labyrinth itself.
I find the film uplifting, mainly on account of the heroism of the three characters previously mentioned, but also (less deeply) on account of the escapist relief offered at the end when the true nature of the magical world is revealed.

The second of tonight's Thunderbirds episodes, 'Sun Probe', gave me nightmares as a kid, and is a major reason why I'd never go into space if someone offered me a free trip. I'm half-watching it now, but it's pretty nerve-wracking!
Events like Stephen Fry night which were first shown on a Freeview channel have turned up repeated on terrestrial a few months later. I suspect the Thunderbirds night will do the same, especially as it contains a brand-new documentary rather than all-repeat material.
Parker's just wicked.

Yeah, I switched off once that had been established. I can't believe I never twigged that the reason for all the cool elevator pods, hoverbikes and person-chutes that the characters used in Thunderbirds and Star Fleet was that they didn't know how to make them walk. Thumbs up to the documentary makers for including the Wallace & Gromit Thunderbirds parody sequence. Tonight at 9 pm on Film Four: House of Flying Daggers. For those who liked Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Martin
