Trousers have been shattered.
I don't think anyone can do a better Hot Rod than Nick.

I guess it's OK to say it now, but I saw the whole thing about six weeks ago at the Dublin City Comic Con. Nick was there and he gave me a sneak preview of the first two issue's art so I knew all about the big reveal at the end. Still haven't got my copy yet, waiting patiently for it to come in to Comics & Collectables.

Had a flick through it in FPG. Looked like great fun. I accidentally caught the cliffhanger, but it brought me joy. Can't wait for the trade!

I've only just deduced from the posts in this thread that #2 has been released. Fortunately FPC still had two copies, so I can continue to show solidarity with the Roche. Will be reading it as soon as I finish my fish and chips.
I find it a sad sign of the times that more seems to be made of Internet previews than the comic itself. How many people actually bought #1 after all the hype? 'Cos not many people talked about it on the Hub.
(Counts them.) Well, OK, eight people did, but it was a rather short discussion compared to the three-page 'Maximum Dinobots in my Pants' build-up thread.

I have not yet read Maximum Dinobots #1 yet. I am waiting for the trade. Times are hard and not even Nick Roche can soften up the credit crunch.

Well, #2 was much more fun than #1, probably because it just got on with things rather than having to spend much of the issue explaining what had gone before. There's a lot of Furmanisms in the dialogue, mostly from Scorponok ("If I'd wanted you dead..." "I want you to see the full scope of what is even now unfolding in all its terrible glory, the magnificent breadth of my vision." "You seek to provoke me, prompt some unguarded revelation, but the thing is... I fully intend to tell you everything.") But they don't annoy so much as give me fond memories of Galvatron at his best. The Dynobots/Dinobots debate between Sunstreaker and his human results in teeth-grinding, however. Sunstreaker looks superb in every shot, as in #1. The Dinobot showdown is thankfully not at all a rehash of Dinobot Hunt but rather handled in a genuinely new way. Some nice one-way dialogue between Grimlock and Slag, fleshing out their history, and I was mentally cheering Big G when he calmly saved the human. Grimlock has called in the Predacons . Be interesting finding out what's going on with that. And as for the conclusion and next issue cover, nowt needs to be said. It was only logical... Best line of the issue: "I feel curiously obligated to put this lackluster lifeform out of harm's way." Second best line: "Fnorh!" Martin

Sadly it will probably be a while before I shall be in a position to comment any further on Maximum Dinobots. The trade won't be out for a good long while, and with the price of single issue comics having risen to where it currently stands it is no longer financially attractive for me to buy them.
Looking forward to reading the trade in due course though.

FPL seem to be absorbing the extra cost - I paid £2.70 - the same price as previous TF comics - for Maxi Dino #2 when I bought it today.

Eagerly waiting for the trade. Living further away from comic shops plus price increases would mean each issue would cost me £6.20!

Picked this up on Saturday. It was all right.
I agree with Martin's sentiment about Grimlock saving the human. It's always nice to see heroes being heroes, even reluctantly. Sometimes especially so.

Bought it, read it, loved it. Sure, it's not Shakespeare, but it is damn good fun. Yet again, I'm loving all the incidental details Nick put into it, and can't wait for the next part.
Alas, yes, the price hike is off-putting, but for this one short series it's worth it (I always planned this as my last non-TPB series from IDW anyway).

Eagerly waiting for the trade. Living further away from comic shops plus price increases would mean each issue would cost me £6.20! Or alternatively find a nice helpful online comic seller and get it posted to your door for £3.55. By the way it costs the same in postage to send two comics as it does to send one. So if anyone wants issues 1 and 2 message me and it'd be £6.30. End of plug!

I just received my copy from the esteemed Mr Bax (give him your money) - and the trousers have been maximum shattered!
Massive punch-ups! Cackling supervillains! Friction among the Dinobots! Reluctant human saving! A cunning Machination plot! Mysterious dodgy types! That final cliffhanger page!
More like this please!

Nick kindly let me read his copy. I thought it was good fun! Scorponok speaks entirely in pure Furmanism, which I loved.

It's a breath of fresh air, probably made to feel even better considering it's up against All Hail Mediocrity. We start in the middle of the rather one-sided Hot Rod/Scorponok fight and the action doesn't really let up. Everything is moving at speed as the plot jumps forward. The art as one would expect is top notch and it's great to see some little hints of how the Dynabots were formed, someone over at Tfarchive likened the Slag reveal to being reminiscent of "The 4,000,000 Year Itch" and I can see where they are coming from.
Great moment when Grimlock saved the human and the last minute reveal (which put me in mind of the end of the very first Dreamwave comic) was excellent and thoroughly appropriate.

Another cracking issue and I'm rather fond of Nick's "Maximum Dinobots No More" B cover. It conjures up happy nostalgia for the Marvel days.
In a way it feels like IDW did Simon a favour by insisting he wrap up his 'ations script. Now that the shackles are off and the serious stuff is out of the way, it feels like he's having fun with this vastly more simple story.
Admittedly I do worry that there's not enough elements to this story, and those that are there are a tad predictable. For example Skywatch setting the Dinos on Grimlock and my expectation that this will result in them losing control and having to use Shockwave etc.
If memory serves the loose ends being wrapped up by this five parter are as follows: Scorponok and Machination/Headmasters, Huntstreaker, return/emancipation of the Dinobots and Shockwave. Given Simon's propensity to run lots of plots simultaneously that's not a lot of threads.
So its nice to see the 'mysterious group' arriving in orbit. It introduces an unpredictable element and should hopefully ensure this title keeps delivering and doesn't fizzle out.

There's a theory going around that the new guys are the Monsterbots.
Which would be BRILLIANT.

I was sure they were the Predacons, what with the colours and the red lion's mane thing on the back of the leader. I thought the one on the right was Divebomb, but you have thrown me into a little doubt now.

Whoever the mysterious characters are, I hope they turn up next issue because it seems the one slow moving element. Well it's fine at the moment but if the arrival is put off until #4 then it will seem strange when everything else is just belting along. I suspect it'll actually be next issue's cliffhanger.
I too got to see this issue's cliffhanger before reading the issue as the comic just flopped open on that page. Damn you gentle breeze!
Unlike last issue where I didn't mind the recap, here (even though there's much less of it) it irritated. Probably because I had re-read Spotlight: Shockers quite recently so I was thinking 'I know, I know, move on...'

Whereas I haven't read Spotlight: Shockwave since it was first released, and very much appreciated the recap.
And I'm sticking with the Predacons as the latecomers, but at the current pace I'm sure they'll land long before the end of issue 3.

The predacons would make sense given the content of Spotlight Jazz

Except we don't really know very much about Spotlight Jazz other than some of its set in the early war days on Cybertron and some during AHM, and its got the Preds in it.
The monsterbots would be a joy to see and it is about time they got some more characterisation. But I wonder if they are a bit too similiar to the Dinobots to guest star in this story (both have animal alt modes and are mavericks) so it's more likely the Predacons.
Perhaps the scene is being set for the Predacons to adopt their traditional wild animal alt modes and square off against the Dinobots. This could be Grudge Re-Match 21 years after the original Marvel battle.
