Whilst I applaud the intent - expanding air travel is not something I feel that we should be doing for many reasons, consumption of resources, pollutant emissions etc, etc. - I'm not sure that they can do anything more than delay proceedings for as long as it takes for the Government to issue a compulsory purchase order for the piece of land in question, which I'm sure the Government will be quite happy to do.

The Cabinet is divided on the issue. The Greenpeace plot helps give the environmental campaign more publicity, and more media attention to the village community due to be flattened.
As a financial contributor to Greenpeace I received an e-mail from them today offering to give me a small piece of the plot in my name for free. (The more separate land-owners, the more compulsory purchase orders needed to get it back.)
As an advisor to the Government on environmental issues, I thought, better stay clear of it. I'm sure they'll have enough takers without me becoming a co-plotter.

Well, Labour are going for it, but the Conservatives have promised the runway will not go ahead if they win the next election, so it could still go either way in the end.

I don't support the new runaway. A village will be lost. That's more important. We've got plenty of runways already.
