nah, I don't think it is my dad had it mildy, and the grammer school he was at just thought he was stupid, end of! It was only afterwards he found out, by himself, he suffered from it but it doesn't stop you doing much, still did his chemical engineering degree. Its just you can't understand the letters in words, can't see it, I get it every now and again I think....hmmm... The main problem I have is pronouncing words, I don't stutter really, just slurr sometimes, I see what I want to say in my head but it doesn't come out that way. Thats when people think you have a problem, fools XD

What are your views about this claim, and dyslexia in general? I think that he is very poorly informed as to what dyslexia is. He seems to think because it is possible to teach people literacy that they cannot be dyslexic, whereas in fact there are a fair number of literate dyslexics in this world and always have been. The fact that someone can be taught to manage a condition and to live as if the condition is not there, does not in fact mean that said condition is not present or did not exist in the first place. It may well be that the phonics system is a more effective teaching method for those who have dyslexia - however, that cannot be evinced as evidence that if that system helps them with reading then the condition does not exist. I would suggest perhaps this MP needs to consider how causation is actually established before vaulting to conclusions. It would be akin to saying that as I am fully capable of operating in the world despite being colour-blind then colour-blindess is a fictional condition. Karl

Said Labour MP should try being an LSA for a day, then be assigned to work with dyslexic pupils and see for him/herself.
