Overcast is a repaint of Dreadwing.
Dreadwing: tfkenkon.com/g/?mode=album&album=Collection/act458
I passed on Dreadwing as I wasn't that impressed with the toy's colour and it looked like a poor KO of Armada Thrust - which in turn isn't my favourite mold ever. The paint scheme on Overcast is more encouraging so when Jon Slater had a spare I willingly relieved him of it.
Overcast is a mainly black jet - think Skywarp and you're not far wrong. There's some yellow paint highlights, and some grey and allspark blue on the undercarriage, which includes some form of fuel tank/missile stretching the length of the plane - think a Predator jet mounted on Stalker's missile. This has the wheels for the plane mounted in, no fold down undercarriage here. The jet has 2 clear yellow jet trails that plug into the engine and can be fired as missiles. There are no other weapons in jet mode.
TF: Fold down the tail fins and pull away to the side and down taking the engine on that side with them..Fold round so they're facing out the front of the jet and then fold the entire jet/arm section out to the side and up. Fold a little fin out of the rear of the wing where it meets the body and fold the entire wing section down and forward so it's the other way up and pointing to the front. Fold down the ends of the fuel tank under the plane, then pull each half down at the middle folding out to form the legs. Fold back the feet and heel spur. Fold up the little blue piece in the middle of the waist - this denotes the front. Fold down the legs, and then fold the waist up into place behind the cockpit and jet body assembly - doing this causes the jet body to split in half and extend out to the sides. Pose the arms so the trigger is on top and the fins point to the sides. Fold the nosecone back to reveal the head which folds down onto the neck.
The resulting robot ..... has some problems. For a start there's no discernable hands, just the jet engines at the end of the arms ala Armada Thrust. Then we have the arms themselves that only bend in at the middle and not up. The pose on the packaging looks awful with the upper legs spread to the sides at the hips and the knees - long term readers will no how I despise knees that fold to the sides ! Fortunately you can come up with a straighter leg pose but this then looks far to thin for the upper body. I just have to except the mono eyed look is in at the moment. Hopefully the look will pass.
Articulation: Bends to the sides at the knees but fortunately also in the correct direction too ! Forewords and back just bellow the hip, at the sides to the hips, and round at the waist. The neck is 2 ball joints at either end of a rod allowing a wide range of movement. We have ball joints at the shoulders - good, at the elbow - only allows arm to fold in towards the body - which are linked to a rod terminating at another ball joint at the top of the forearm which only allows the arms to turn.
This isn't the worst movie toy - even by default it's got a better colour scheme than Dreadwing. But the robot mode is so hindered by it's flaws.
Think carefully before buying. Then get Red Powerlinx Armada Thrust instead cos there's a paint scheme really rescuing a poor mold and you get a decent mincon thrown in.
