This wave of Universe Legends features 1 animated toy and 3 G1 ones. I wonder if the animated wave was meant to be the first four character wave and they got swapped leaving one animated toy behind ?
Animated Starscream
Tall & thin like the Voyager toy this one is even more reminiscent of G1 Starscream with larger red sides to the chest. The cockpit down the middle and the guns molded to the arm are also like the G1 version, but the main lilac colour is a little different ! All he has in the articulation department is ball joints at hip and shoulder.
TF: Fold the arms down to the sides. Fold the nosecone of the jet down between his legs. Fold the back and wings up so they're above the body. Fold the head back so the space behind the cockpit has fuselage rather than head in it. Fold the wings forward. Fold the feet in and fold the legs under the jet. Fold the wings back so they're snug against the legs. Infuriatingly the instructions have illustrated the wings the wrong way round throughout !
Rather like Cyberjet Strafe/GI Joe Conquest this Starscream has forward swept wings. Not a bad jet though the head can be seen between the engines.
G1 Bumblebee
This is a quite blocky version of G1 Bumblebee - very square head - with the sides of the arms being covered by the sides of the car in robot mode. The figure has ball jointed hip, bending ankles as part of the TF and shoulders that move up & down as well as bend inwards.
TF: Fold Bumblebee's back up so it covers the head. Fold the waist back. Bring the feet together and fold them down. Fold the legs up so the feet becomes the car's bonnet. Fold the arms round to the sides of the car and press in so they lock over clips projecting back from the front of the car.
Car could be a VW Beetle - one that had been stretched out and had the bottom level of the windows raised.
I think I'm feeling poorly disposed towards BB because he was done so well, almost definitively in the first run of Universe Deluxe toys. This is too flawed even for a legends version for my tastes.
G1 Brawn
Mistransformed in package - the shoulder joints are folded down to the waist and the arms are pointing up. Start by folding the arms down and out to the sides, then bend the shoulder joints up and finally rotate the arms down.
Brawn's not been blessed with that many versions over the years. This one captures the basics from the animation model: round head, green arms and lower legs, orange chest, grey upper legs. The head looks odd - it's only when I looked at TFU's G1 Brawn page that I realised the problem - the face on the toy is black where it should be white or silver. Ball jointed shoulders & hips again. He's got bending knees but they only bend the wrong way as part of the TF.
TF: fold the arms so they point up. Bend the legs up, fold the waist back. Fold the arms and shoulders down to waist level. Fold the arms in so the hands are beside the head. Peg the feet together and fold the lower legs down to become the back of the vehicle.
Solid Jeep/SUV type vehicle with the backs of the legs showing through the roof resembling equipment stashed to the roof rack. All four wheels on the car plus the spare (all in black) turn.
Decent vehicle. Nice to get a less used older character back.
G1 Beachcomber
All three g1 toys in this wave begin with the letter B !
Beachcomber is very reminiscent of his G1 form in robot mode - his articulation includes ball jointed shoulder & hips and bending knees.
TF: pull the body up so it covers the head. Straighten the legs, fold the heel spurs forward to form the sets and fold the lower legs back to form the front of the dune buggy. Fold the arms down beside the toy and then bring in as close as possible to the toy and move them as far down the body as possible.
Vehicle mode is a very different sort of dune buggy complete with high sides, white mudguards at the front and a spare tire & gun at the back.
Decent update to a classic character.
