OVERLOAD (Micromasters, 1989) Overload, the second of the two Autobot Micromaster Transports, takes the term Transport quite literally. In blue cab/grey trailer car carrier vehicle mode, he is able to transport other Micromaster vehicles. In that respect, Overload is a lot like Ultra Magnus from 1986. Except in this case, the trailer unfolds into a jet/chariot instead of robot armour. Like Erector and Roughstuff, Overload’s cab is the actual Micromaster. While looking just like the original Optimus Prime’s/Ultra Magnus’s cab, the transformation sequence, albeit simplified, is the same as well. Oddly, though, Overload’s robot mode is cumbersome, looking like a blue truck cab with a pair of red legs hanging underneath. [There is a variation of Overload, one produced with painted white cab windows and one without.] Overload’s trailer splits open into a jet/chariot type vehicle. It lacks all sense of aerdynamicism; essentially a grey crate with a red nosecone. The strut that the nose swings on is prone to loosening, preventing the nosecone staying in place. Overload can sit inside and pilot the vehicle. Of course, any other cars he might have been transporting would have to kindly vacate beforehand. While boasting a neat and functional vehicle mode, which interacts especially well with, say, the Race Car Patrol, Overload is somewhat disappointing, lacking the charm of the other Transports such as Flattop and Erector. [Please note, trailer missing from gallery.]

I get more of a Prime riff from the cab rather than Magnus.

I don't know where I saw it, a catalogue or an advert but I definitely saw the toy referred to as Micromaster Optimus Prime when it first came out.

Overload's jet is rather sweet, it just suffers from too much grey!

I just realised thats its actually I pretty cool Powered Convoy homage. In fact if Hasbro do ever do a Powered Convoy repaint of a Prime?Magnus toy Overload would be a pretty good name for it.
This was the only MM transport I owned growing up. Probably the Prime look that made me buy it.
Its a bit odd though that the vehicle mode is actually bigger than Motormaster.

Overload was always my favourite of the MM Transports as he was the first one I got as a child. I always remember Overload Roadhandler and Freewheeler going off on missions......
