See also Prowl and SilverstreakIf you said Universe Smokescreen to a TF Fan they'd think Prowl/Silverstreak mould in blue, red and white racing colours. And they'd be broadly right. The spoiler that was included with Prowl now becomes significant as it enables the mould to be Smokescreen easily. Because it's a repaint I'm more picky about the deco - the white stripe is a little wide on the car and the numbers on the side (38 - why ? - I know the G1 version had the number 38 but what's the significance ?) are a little small both compared with the G1 version The robot mode requires more pickiness - the chest is all red, the blue at the sides of the bonnet having been folded away with the doors. Upper arms & legs plus missiles are grey .... looking at the original a majority verdict would have moulded these in white. The wrists and the gun are the same bright red as the car body and that just doesn't work - could do with being black like Prowl. The spoiler and rear bumper have ended up on the knees and the blue looks a little odd there. But broadly speaking this is a decent enough Smokescreen. It ticks most of the major boxes and it's only a little of the fine detail where it's gone wrong.

^^ is the original vehicle on which Smokescreen was based. I think for copyright/licensing reasons they reversed the 83 to 38.

Smokescreen
Henkei Smokescreen takes the US version and goes to town fixing the things that annoyed me first time out. The white stripes are the right size – Universe missed out the one on the bottom. The numbers are the right font and the boxes are rounded – though we do loose the one on the bonnet. The red is consistent throughout with the spoiler now being chromed red and the blue is now a paler shade.
Transformation reveals similar improvements to the robot mode with the arms – previously dark blue and grey – now being light blue and the wrists – which were red – are now the correct black. Similarly the grey of the legs is now white and the head is now the paler blue. Shoulder cannons and guns are chromed now.
Superb improvements, producing a really G1 accurate version of Smokescreen. This is the one you want.
