My dilemma, as colourist, is whether to give Goldbug a blue head (like the toy) or a gold one (like the comic).

He was blue in some of the UK comics, I imagine the gold was just becauce Mr Yomtov was such an outstanding genius in his field and gave him the Xaaron treatment. Or Xaaron got the Goldbug treatment.

I preferred the toy style colours myself.
Then again, the gold head made more sense in that Bumblebee was yellow all over too. It made Goldbug look more like a transition from Bumblebee, which is what he is.

I think I've gone for the blue head. It provides more contrast to the illustration.

I tend to think of Goldbug having a blue head.

I actually always think of Goldbug in the comic colours, or occaisionally the cartoon colours. In fact, I had completely forgotten the toy had a blue head!

You guys are far too kind. This one's for the old-school MUKers!
It's so amusing how many Americans have been utterly confused by this one...

Haha, my bro showed me that one! Half a page of comments before anybody came close to understanding. Lotsa "What?"'s and "I don't get it"'s and "What the heck is going on?"'s. Then a couple of brits show up and are all like, "You guys are stupid. Go read Time Wars, it's fantastic!"

It's not a cartoon thing, so maybe it flew over many folk's heads.

For various reasons US fandom tends to treat the Sunbow cartoon as the "central text" of Transformers in the same way that a lot of UK fandom feels about the comic. Indeed a lot of them don't have any significant experience of the comic, having either never encountered it or tried it and found it diverges too far from their baseline for "proper" Transformers for them to feel comfortable with it.
But that is a digression. What I really posted to say was that this is a very impressive piece of work mate. You have nailed the visual aesthetic of the story in question - the style is inevitably slightly different because you are a different artist to the original, but the "feel" and sense of the art is right. But more than that you have captured the characters as well. The narration is very true to the way comic Magnus "sounds", it just has the undefinable right "ring" to it. Superb stuff.

It's so good that Simon Williams has even congratulated him on it via Facebook. You can't get much better than that.

Yeah, I'm aware that most of the "older" TF fans in the US regard Sunbow as the primary canon. But it still surprised me by sheer numbers how many didn't get it. Especially with Titan and IDW's fairly recent reprints. And quite apart from that, I guess I was expecting there to be more brits see it than there seemed to be. Simon Williams is a really cool guy, I've been chatting with him online on and off, now and then for about a year, so while I didn't expect him to congratulate me on Facebook it really didn't surprise me. What DID surprise me was Gregg Berger commenting on the comment with a joke. Thanks again, you 'orrible lot.

Plus, a comic generally has more words to read than a cartoon.
But well done on all the kudo, Ed, you deserve it!

Yeah, I'm aware that most of the "older" TF fans in the US regard Sunbow as the primary canon. But it still surprised me by sheer numbers how many didn't get it. Especially with Titan and IDW's fairly recent reprints. . I've noticed a pattern online from fans (of all countries) over the years. FAN 1: "Waaaaaaaaaa! I've never read the old comics because I can't get them/never seen them." FAN 2: "Hey, dude. Here are links to amazon, ebay and several other places you can buy the issues or trade paperback collections. Or go to a comic shop. Or here are some bit torrent links." FAN 1: "(....)" FAN 2: "Titan/IDW do regular reprints that are often mentioned on this very site." FAN 1: "Waaaaaaaaaa! I've never read the old comics because I can't get them/never seen them." Boggles the mind everytime. I call it the 'Unless I Can Get It In Walmart/ASDA/Local Shop Syndrome'. -Ralph

Very nice indeed.
And as for those fans Ralph, I just rapidly tune them out, they are the online equivalent of white noise to me these days.

I just had a look at the Seibertron thread. My favourite Comment Of The Confused:
"If anyone has any insight, please enlighten us all... I'd like to say that I liked it beyond just the art, but the story reads like it's a single page ripped from a much larger story, taken so far out of context that it serves only to confuse..."

Haha, well, yeah... it almost IS a page ripped from the comic; that was my intent! If the whole thing had happened on one page originally I would have been a happy chappy! Woulda saved me from trying to work out the new layout. Like I say, I'm amused by the confused, but not at all bothered by them. This one was specifically and deliberately designed to cater to the old guard of UK fandom, since, as everybody knows, our shit was better and, ergo, WE are better.
