As an excise I'm trying to pick ten Marvel comics as the best of what they've had offer. I've limited myself to one issue from any series.
Problem is I'm a bit stuck.
My starting point is Hulk 290 which (as Ralph will atest) is one of the most Maddest mental moments of Mantlotainment out there.
After that New X-Men 113 has to go in. Morrison/Quitely breaking the X-Men mould.
Then I hit problems.
What now ?
I think there should be some Byrne, some Claremont and some Simonson (probably Thor)
So nominations of really decent Marvel issues please.

I can recommend Spider-Man's Tangled Web #4: "Severance Package" by Greg Rucka and Eduardo Risso!. Absolutely brilliant. By far my favourite Spider-Man story, and ol' Spidey's barely in it. A preview is available to read online - but I'd recommend getting the book itself - the subsequent 'Flowers for Rhino' is also excellent but we're talking single issue per series so Severance Package wins the recommendation: www.marvel.com/digitalcomics/titles/Spider-Man~apos~s_Tangled_Web.2001.4

Fantastic 4 issue 48 (first part of Galactus 'saga') or 51 (This Man, This Monster). Death of Gwen Stacy issue of Amazing Spider-Man, obvious, but worthy. Uncanny X-Men 141 (first part of Days of Future Past).
I'm useless with issue numbers these days, so I'm struggling with more recent stuff.
And Severance Package is brilliant.

Oh, and I really like the X-Men issue of Marvels, which is issue 4 I think. And just to flip that I'd put in issue 1 of Warren Ellis' Ruins.
I'd have to have a Garth Ennis Punisher and a Peter Milligan X-Force in there. Maybe one or two things from the early (ie good) years of the Ultimate imprint.

Let me think.
Uncanny X-Men#141 - first part of Days of Future Past X-Factor #87 by PAD and Joe Q. The Mighty Thor #337 by Walt Simonson - now that's how you change a creative team and give a new direction. Warlock #11 - Jim Starlin as Warlock steals his soul in the future to save the universe from his evil future self. Excalibur 16 - Kurt Wagner warlord of ee'rath!
I'll have a think about some others.

I've had a think, and keep in mind I've only been reading Marvel again for a year, I only realy get TPBs. I've picked out some fave story lines.
Marvel Knights Sentry. Weird, fascinating story about a man who's forgotten he was one of the first ever super heroes. Great art and story. Spooky! The Sentry vs The Void issue is my fave. Epic conclussion!
House of M. I know a lot of fans didn't like this story, but I loved it. Wonderfully wide ranging. Great art work. Kept me guessing what was going on. I love issue 1 in partic. the build up is well handled, I found myself terrified of what the Scarlet Witch would and could do.
Illuminati. Wonderful idea, the gathering of the 'leaders' of the Marvel super heroes. Fab action. Epic story lines leading up to the Secret Invasion. Issue one where they attack the Skrulls is mint. "Black Blot, what do you have to say?" KA-BOOM!
Ultimate Fantastic Four: Gods. Ultimate Thanos scares the sh1t outa me! Also lovin' the fresh young F4. Can't remember the issue number, but the scenes where Thanos takes over Thing and confronts Reed is top bannana for dramatic action.
Ultimates 2: Grand Theft America. Totaly awesome, violent to the max, story. Everything is kicking off. I think it's the final part I enjoy the most. The part entitled 'Avengers'. Just the scale of the story, gripping.
Ultimate 2: Gods and Monsters. The confrontation with Thor. Awesomeness.
Ultimate Spider man, can't remember the issue, read it from the libary. But the scene where Parker decides to unmask himself and kiss the Black Cat, who up until that point had the hots for him, but then realises Spidey is juts a kid and runs for the hills! Very funny.
