It's a shame, generally speaking the Spotlights have been amongst the best stuff done by IDW. More hits than misses at any rate.

To correct some of the posts above this is NOT an AHM tie in, certainly not overtly anyway. Ah, right, I see! Whoever is writing the IDW solicits was perhaps on the apple sauce the night they wrote the one for this! -Ralph

If its written by Shane McCarthy it will most likely be an AHM tie-in sometime in the future. He will incorporate some of the stuff within that Spotlight into a future AHM issue - probably AHM issue 56!

Yeah, well, as I noted on the first page, they've been cocking up their solicits for a while now. Hell, if they can't even edit some two sentence blurb correctly, no wonder AHM sucks.
Anyway, haven't read this and probably won't, but I have noted in the reviews that it hasn't got a strong AHM tie-in, which is a relief.
Also, as of Botcon announcements, IDW is suspending, at least, the Spotlight format for now. They're keeping open the possibility of returning to them in the future, but after Metroplex there won't be more for a while.
Of course, they've also bollocksed on about whether there's an ongoing or not, so who the hell knows. I expect/hope they'll be releasing some solid info at Comicon in San Diego in late July.

It read like a complete stand-alone story to me.

Yep it's a standalone. I was going to criticise a bit that seemed to jump suddenly but as I was flicking through my copy I've just realised that some of the pages were stuck together. But based on my initial read it seemed like an OK issue. It'll be a pitty if they do get rid of the spotlights. Unless the ongoing sounds super incredible exciting, I may soon not be buying any IDWTF at all.

Quite possibly one of the most pointless comics I've ever read, this one. Nothing to do with Cliffjumper, nothing to do with Transformers, nothing to do with any ongoing storyline, nothing to do with the lead character being a shape changing robot, might as well have been a Superman story, huge leaps in logic and the most basic generic unimaginative story possible. I mean there's nothing wrong with it as such, it goes from a-b, it's standalone and the art is quite nice, I could actually read it without fighting the urge to put it down unlike a lot of IDW stuff, but, just, well, all of the above.

I read this issue about a week or so ago and I thought that it was the best McCarthy-penned story to date. Sure it has little to do with TF's but it is a nice unengaging story. It makes a change to AHM where every issue seemed to have the same plotline - Decepticons pick a fight with the Autobots - the end!
