I found a boxset of all the Rocky films for £15 in HMV and snapped it up because I don't own any or had seen Rocky Balboa. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I was pleasantly surprised by II as well which I don't remember being /as/ good. I am still not sure which is my favourite though, III or IV which are both miles above the rest.
III may have Mr T, but in IV he fights Dolph Lundgren and defeats communism and saves the world and the President of Russia is all "YAAAAY ROCKY!" or something.
V is still crap though

I think I'll snap up that boxset if it's £15 at my HMV.
IV is easily the best of the lot.

I loved Rocky I-IV as a young lad. Haven't seen them as an adult as I suspect they may not hold up. Not seen the 5th or 6th films as they just don't sound interesting to me.

I can't stand the fourth Rocky film. It has too much unintentionally hilarious boxing in it. Dolph Lundgren's character seems to beat Rocky to an absolute pulp and then turns to jelly as Rocky gets up when he should have been dead and beats him.
Rocky III is my favourite of the lot. It is well written and doesn't go over the top in the boxing scenes.

Well I think Rocky III is amazing as an actual film (I never really 'felt' the first two, and yes I know the first won Oscars and the like). But I love Rocky IV for how over the top it is. Rocky has a ROBOT for heavens sake. And Ivan Drago trains with COMPUTERS whilst Rocky trains with SNOW and LOG CABINS all to the tones of Vince DeCola. It shouldn't work, but it does work. Also it doesn't have just one or two montages, it has montages that lead in to montages! It is like a giant montage!

There is no Rocky V.
But Rocky Balboa was genuinely quite good. Saw it on the big screen and it was tops!

I got this a while ago from the HMV website for £12. Bargin! Haven't had chance to watch them yet but from memory I like I-III and Balboa, IV had moments but I really wish they hadn't bothered and V... seems to have been blocked from my memory.

"Go for it!" Just went to the HMV site to check out getting a £12 set. Sadly it looks to be hiked back up to £49.99. Play.com has it for £24.99 also. Going to HMV tommorrow to see if I can get the £15 set. ===KEN

Rocky V is the worst one of the entire series. There is no plot worth speaking of and the Tommy Gunn character is too bland to be interesting. If the film wasn't already bad enough it ends with Rocky and Tommy having a fist fight in the street.
I haven't watched the recent Rocky Balboa yet but I am hoping its better than the last two films.

The problem with Rocky V is that it is trying to do something different (which is to be commended) but does it really cack-handedly. The idea of the final fight being a street fight is a good one. BUT what happens is that (iirc) Tommy and Rocky fight, Tommy walks away and then Rocky is all "I'm gonna HAVE YOU" and runs up to him and punches him in the back.
My order from best to worst is:
1. Rocky IV 2. Rocky III 3. Rocky Balboa 4. Rocky 5. Rocky II 6. Rocky V
This is based on the principle of 'which did I enjoy more' rather than 'which is a technically good movie that other people like'

Learnt today we lost Carl Weathers earlier this month. Predator/Mandalorian/Rocky threads to choose from, but Apollo Creed probably stands out as his most iconic. If you haven't seen the sitcom Arrested Development, he has a recurring role in that where he plays a spoof of himself.
