This is a miniseries from HBO and Ed Burns and David Simon of The Wire based on a book by journalist Evan Wright, following a group of US Marines during the land invasion of Iraq in 2003. It's quite strong stuff, shot almost documentary style and with little commentary (other than arguably portions of the last episode) as to whether the war was justified or not. The viewer is mostly left to form their own opinions on that. It mostly focusses on what it was like in the Marine Corps. No incidental score and heavy emphasis on sound design. There are no usual TV staples like flashbacks and the like. You really do feel like you're there.
Worth a look when it gets a DVD release.
