The best video games mag will always be the mighty Your Sinclair, for it contained the best description of the past I have read: "When the world was black and white and everything was made of wood."

The Doctor speaks true. I always preferred the Future-era YS, rather than the earlier Dennis magazine that many people enjoy.
Primenova, do you accept postal orders or cheque?

The Future era was indeed tops. I miss the days of video game mags having character rather than being thinly veiled advertising pamphelts. I remember a review of the game NARC in Your Sinclair (the game involved you dealing with the drugs problem by shooting drugs dealers) which became an intelligent critique over whether such a subject matter was suitable for a game aimed at children where the only solution was to kill. This was a few years before such articles became commonplace.

Crash was a million times betterer than YS!
VG mags are pretty much dead these days. Aside from the likes of Games TM and Edge, I can't see why anyone would buy them when there's so much coverage on the internet.

Games TM is quite a good mag. I've got almost every single issue of that and maintain that its the best multiformat games mag on the shelves today.

In most cases the quality has fallen with the increase in price. The official magazines of the previous generation (PS2, Xbox, Nintendo) were utterly, utterly terrible, but the current generation mags are much better. Admittedly I wouldn't pay £6 for the Official PS or 360 mag, but at least they recognise that the majority of their audience are patronised by the sweary kid writing style.
I've mentioned it on a few occasions, but I recommend NGamer, the unofficial Nintendo magazine for anyone who wants to see a modern Your Sinclair. It's a bit pricey (£5), comes with usesless 'gifts (the previous issue had a Mario flag) and the plastic bag makes it look like a kids magazine, but the writing is amusing and creates a sense of character. It's the perfect antithesis to the anonymous style of GamesTM and EDGE.
Has anyone bought the latest issue of EDGE? For the 200th issue they've printed 200 different covers and distributed them around the country. It took some searching to find a decent one, but I'm happy to have bought the Super Mario World pixel art cover.

Ooo I'll have to have a look out see what I can find. 200th issue! Doesn't seem that long ago that it was the 100th (though obviously it was).

Just sent a pm - if let me know which issue you after. CVG was good until they swapped companies & it was all that nurse on the cheats page.

I used to like NGamer magazine when it was NGC but have since lost interest in it. For my staple of the latest Nintendo games I get the official Nintendo magazine. Like NGamer I don't think its as good as its predecessor but it still tells me what I want to read. The free gifts are also marginally less tacky than the ones on NGamer.

You are an evil, evil man! :-) I wasn't going to buy any more magazines, but I feel compelled to take a few of these off your hands in the ebay auctions.

Soon enough I'll be putting a load of old Nintendo Official Magazines on Ebay. I have issues 109 - 162 (issue 162 was the final issue they made before another official Nintendo magazine got the UK license to make the only official Nintendo magazine). Some of the later issues still have the free gifts came with them and I'm planning on putting the issues up on Ebay in lots of about 10 or 11 issues.

I'm not a regular reader, but I do buy the occasional issue of Retro Gamer when they feature old games I remember. Decent mag.

There was also a special Your Sinclair #94 given away with an issue of Retro Gamer. Been flicking through old Super Play scans recently and, yeah that was a great mag. Also enjoyed Total! back in the day - scans of which seem not to exist.

I never actually read Super Play magazine. I know that it metamorphasised into N64 mag and then NGC but thats all. Back when that mag was around I wasn't privy to computers, computer games or games magazines.

I found it surprisingly easy to buy Super Play, N64 and NGC on ebay. I bought 25 issues of Super Play for £1 and 90 issues of N64/NGC for £17 a few years ago. However, the prices have gone up dramatically in the last year for some crazy reason.
On a related note, NGamer 46 (out today) contains a feature on the last 10 years of Nintendo. It also comes with a dented Game and Watch tin.

Talking about NGC magazine I've got quite a few NGC magazines that I'm planning of putting up on Ebay some time soon.
