Ultimates Vol 3 Previews over at CBR preview of Ultimates v3 #1There's no dialogue but it is good to see Joe Mad's work again, although I'd much rather it had been inked rather than coloured directly from the pencils. Andy

I've been getting the TPBs el cheapo from Amazon steadily for the past few months. And I'm really enjoying them! A wonderfull, fresh look at the F4, prob my fave super hero team. What's most interesting is that they're young, barely out of their teens. It's an excellantly put together comic, with roller-coster story-lines! Any other Mother-Hubber read some of these?

I read a few issues of it when it started but found it rather content free.

I really enjoyed the arc where Mark Millar took back over and ity started all that Marvel Zombies stuff, but otherwise it was a bit blah. I stopped getting it ages ago.

I recall reading the first four issues, but dropped it at that stage. It seemed like there were some perfectly decent ideas in it, but everything was happening so incredibly slowly that I didn't feel I was getting anything like my money's worth.

Seems like rollar coaster to me, but then again, I am reading it TPB. The whole Thanos storyline rocks a fat one!

Sorry, but now you've reminded me, I found that Thanos arc abysmal and it put me right off the comic for good!

I quite like The Ultimates. Just read Ultimates 3. Not as good as the 1 or 2, but ok. Really enjoyed 1 and 2. Looking forward to Ultimatum! Just got a quick question for anyone in the know.
Seemed to be a big jump from 2 to 3. Is there a story inbetween that I've missed?
Ta!

No. But they changed the writers from Mark Millar to Jeph Loeb. Jeph Loeb seems to not really like the Ultimate Universe as much, so everyone in it suddenly gets their 'normal' costumes and characterisations.

Thanks for that, Blue. Yeah, I enjoyed Ultimates 3, but to me it seemed to loose all the distiction it had from the 'classical' Marvel universe. I found 1 and 2 fantastically entertaining. But 3, although a good read, lacks that 'normal worldly' feel.

I was really guttingly disappointed by Ultimates 3. It felt like it was taking away everything that made the Ultimate universe 'work'.

Marvel did announce Ultimates 4 a few years ago when Ultimates 3 was first mentioned. Never happened though. IIRC Ed McGuinness and Jeph Loeb were the creative team announced.

Has that now become Ultimate Avengers ? I have a feeling it is being split into Ultimate Avengers (by Millar) and New Ultimates (by Loeb)

This thread inspired me to read Ultimatum. What a mistaka to makea!
What a bad bad comic. Everything interesting happens offpanel, the rest is pretty inappropriate (did I need to see the Blob eating Wasp with her guts hanging out of his mouth) and 3 issues into a 5 issue story, not much has happened. Well stuff has happened, but it doesn't feel like it.

I know it's not the current arc, but I just read the Ultimate X-Men Apocalypse trade (from the library), and I have nothing good to say about it. I don't know why, because I like Robert Kirkman, Salvador Larocca and Apocalypse as a character, but it was absolute bobbins. The Ultimate universe really went downhill. I have a morbid curiousity regarding reading Ultimatum, but I think the whole concept needs putting out of its misery.

I drifted away from Ultimate X-Men Well, away from most of the Ultimate Universe, which is a shame. It used to be the best thing about Marvel

Sinister (you might remember if you read Brian K. Vaughan's run) went around killing mutants to harvest their souls (I didn't really get this bit) and then turned into Apocalypse, who preceded to stand around in New York moo-hahaha-ing away about nothing in particular until Jean used Phoenix to defeat him. And this took 4 issues! And then Jean bizarrely claimed everything was Professor X's fault and left the team. Incidentally, I haven't read it, but apparently she's back in the next issue with the barest of mentions. Which says it all. Also, Salvador Larocca is drawing the Apocalypse storyline, but doesn't do the last issue because Marvel put him on another book. Which also says it all. Also, Beast has come back to life by now which surprises Jean enormously in the second issue in the trade, but she's standing in the same room as him in the preceding issue and doesn't say anything. Which also...

The only Ultimate book I really got into was Ultimate Team-Up, which was quite fun with a lot of variety to it.

I really liked that, too. One of the last books I'd look forward to a month to month basis, as it had a real sense of 'oooh, wonder what will happen/who the artist will be/who the guest character will be' with each issue. And the final issue special was wonderful.

i didn't get it the first time round but enjoyed it when the Panini Ultimate Spider-Man title reprinted it. A lot of fun, and as James says, the what is going to happen this month factor was a joy.

Another Question- with possible spoilers now I think 'bout it.
Re Ultimate Power and Ultimates 2. I think most folkes would have read 'em by now if they're gunna.
In Ultimates 2 Nick Fury looses an arm.
Ultimate Power, which I enjoyed alot, I beleive is set after Ultimates 2.
Fury's got his arm back. Obviously pleased for the chap, but, hu?
Anyone know how this happened?
Ta in advance!
