It's like I've had one weekend, and now I get another one. Hurrah! Lovely and sunny today. Went down the Bay for some more free live storytelling at the WMC. Yesterday watched some Laurence Olivier Shakespeare DVDs and wrote to my uncle to tell him my opinion of them, then went to church in the afternoon. Apart from that, been reading Lewis Carroll's 'other' novel, 'Sylvie and Bruno', which I hadn't even heard of before, and deserves to share the fame of 'Alice' in my humble opinion. Tomorrow - more church, more Lewis Carroll, some Socrates, then on Monday... this! Martin

It seems that you have a much more literate-minded life than what any of us do, Martin. While the rest of us are reading stuff by Simon Furman you're reading stuff by Shakespeare.

Nah, I haven't got the stamina/willpower to read Shakespeare, just to watch it performed. And the more you watch, the easier it gets. And I know I'm not the only one on the Hub... Martin

Who is the other cultured one on the Hub then?

Does anyone else think the test signal is truly sinister? There's something wrong about that little girl, the clown and the game of noughts and crosses. Yep, which is why the bits in Life on Mars with the test card girl were deeply unnerving! -Ralph

Who is the other cultured one on the Hub then? There's a few lurking here. Plus, of course, Simon Furman himself, and Galvatron, in the Marvel UK TF story 'Perchance to Dream'... Martin

And Dinobot. He was always* quoting Hamlet in Beast Wars.
*Well, once or twice.

Ah, the Test card. Thanks Martin - at least I can be sure that my eyes are properly tuned. Even if the hearing is still extremely variable.... :-)
Hope folks are having a good Easter. I'm just back from a wander along a bit of the canal that I hadn't done as yet - five kilometres out and the same back (or so) between Linlithgow and Edinburgh. I took some lunch and sat on a log by the waterside with a book to enjoy my meal. Can't really think of a better way to spend a sunny warm Sunday.

Thanks Martin.
Al Pacino in the Merchant of Venice, might get that as it was one of the Shakespeare plays we studied in school that I enjoyed.

The Kenneth Branagh version of Hamlet is very good. I saw it for the first time recently and was very impressed.

Branagh is apparently gunna direct the upcomming Thor film this/next year! How cool is that!
They're gunna re-start the Fantastic Four movie franchise. I know alot of folkes didn't like the prev 2 films, but I right enjoyed them! Love the cast in partic! Apparently they're gunna make it darker! Ohhhhhhh!

I've just noticed that Christian Bale has a speaking role in this, as the boy. Quite recognisable once you know, even though his voice had yet to break. Quite at home in a cast that includes Branagh, Brian Blessed, Ian Holm, Richard Briers, Derek Jacobi, Judi Dench, Paul Scofield, Robbie Coltrane and Emma Thompson. "Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!" Martin

I could stand to develop an appreciation of the classics... Karl

'Tis certainly to be recommended. For those unaware, 'Henry V' is the one where charismatic leadership and devastating archery allow the English, outnumbered allegedly 5-to-1, to demolish the French at the battle of Agincourt. It contains probably the two greatest pre-battle rousing speeches in world literature. And the Blessed gets to pound various enemies into the ground.
He also appears as the ghost in Branagh's 'Hamlet'.

This sounds like the greatest film ever made!!! I imagine Shakespeare woke up one day, and thought, "Sod it, I've done enough cross-dressing comedies and deep-thinking angst-fests. Today I'm just going to write a play in which our guys pound the other guys into the dust." And he wrote 'Henry V'. Martin
