Andy's right, though I admittedly did like Grimlock threatening to kill Rodimus if he doesn't hear a bedtime story.
I don't know why the Elite Guard needs to be in G1 though. Why can't they do an Animated story?

They can't use the animated moulds yet. Hopefully next year we'll get Animated Wreckers next year. Anyway looks enjoyable enough. Love Grimlocks bunny rabbit. Andy

They can't use the animated moulds yet. They could use non-Animated moulds and just drew them looking Animated in the comic... Maybe.

Hmmm. I don't think I will be too sad to miss out on this to be honest. The dialogue is sufficiently creaky as to be off-putting. I do like some of the art though (the design of the Autobot spaceship is rather nice too).

Hopefully next year we'll get Animated Wreckers next year. I wish they hadn't done a BM Wreckers but kept the idea for RID. Cos the idea of an RID Wreckers is effing funny.

They've also ballsed up the credits as the colourist is missing and I have a feeling they have credited the wrong pages to the wrong people based on the art. Either that or Guido Guidi couldn't be arsed and Dan Khana suddenly got really good.......

I read this yesterday (from the 'titanic' writing team of Forest Lee and Rick Alverez). It caused me physical pain. It also made me hate all of the toys for this year's Botcon. The act of reading this damaged me, perhaps for life. The cost to me was too high. Too high!
I got to the final panel fanwank and had an involuntary emotional reaction: "FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" I yelled very loudly, forgetting Nick's very nice mother was in the house. That's what the Botcon comic did to me.
Damn you, Fun Pub!

God. Where do they find these people?
(Well, Forest Lee writes the bios for all the toys. That is like, the best job in the world!)
I've never been that impressed with the writing of the fan club comic to be honest. I attempted to read the trade that was out a while back, and yeeeeeeesh. Way to try to fit every character ever in there.

Yes indeed this was just about the worst thing I've ever read. Normally I can sit and read FP's output easy enough. At least they dont cause me physical pain. Hell last year even improved my opinion of the toys, but this.....
Were they really so desperate to include Scourge and the sweeps and if so why not set the Elite Guard story in the present day, or as this was a brand new continuity set it all in the past.
Apparently Landshark is based on a Chevy Chase character, frankly the two whole lines he got weren't enough to bring to mind any kind of personality, but in that case at least it was probably for the best. Thunderclash may or may not have been given some character. I'm pretty sure his speech patterns were intended to suggest something but I was struggling to keep reading by the time I reached the elite guard story. I can't remember Kup ever exaggerating his own exploits in the way he does here either. As for Flak I don't even remember him doing anything.
On the other hand Hot Rod, Cyclonus and the Dinobots seem to be given plenty to do or at least what they did was more or less in character shame they had nothing to do with the convention toys.

I don't know why they didn't just make it an Animated comic. The toys might not Animated-style but you can draw the damn comic to look it, and claim being blocky was in style back then.

I imagine FP wrote themselves into a corner from the get-go by wanting to do both a young Kup AND Scourge / Sweeps

Dunno. I haven't fully read AHM other than synopsis and online previews so unfair for me to directly compare. -Ralph

Yes, the Botcon comic was...... somewhat owchy to say the least. And the contents of the much-hyped box brought a deep sigh of resignation from me. I'd comment on the characterisation of the characters but I'm not sure that I was able to detect any to comment on.
Ralph is right though, it does an impressive job of anti-selling the main set of toys.

I've finally read this, it was a bit crap but nowhere near as bad as people were telling me. Though perhaps the bar has been lowered in the intervening year!
The strangely racist portrayal of Leozack was a bit bizarre though. I was half expecting the artist to give him slanted eyes too!

I've just started reading it up to the point where Kup starts the story. So it is meant to be set during the Movie after they leave Earth [but with Cyclonus & Scourge, Hotrod having the new bodies] So instead of Kup talking baout the one we saw when Hotrod was fighting the combat drone - or he could have got 2 stories in for the Dinobots.
