Today is a new day. In fact, it's the newest day I'm aware of. There is not a day that is newer. It's nothing like the old days. And I am glad to be part of it.

I had waited until today before making a new claim for Jobseekers Allowance in case I had to work out a notice period. I had forgotten that the first 3 days of any claim are automatically disregarded though. -Ralph

The cosmic teabagging continues. The specs that needed fixed have been discontinued. So will prob have to pay for new frames and for lenses to regraded to be fit. Further problem is that they were already small so may not be able to get other frames so may need new lenses again anyway. Could be looking at a couple of hundred quid here. Which is a problem as I've had no income since last month.

Nope, the metal on the left leg of these only-used-for-a-year-special-flexible frames snapped clean in two.

Went for a run in the blazing sun for 10 miles, road running in some hilly bits. Did most of it without my top on as a shirtless buffoon.
Feeling it now!

for those going to autoassembly, I found this:
What this ultra cool video gives you? It will give you the confidence to do the robot correctly at autoassembly, a very relevent dance to any Transformers gathering. It will also give you tips of robot dancing so you'll never feel embarassed about cocking it up.
I guarentee that you will be the envy of all your transfromer pals why? because your a robot!!

An interesting realisation this afternoon. The fact that I still don't have proper hearing in one ear is probably making me more productive in the office. I sit with most of the rest of the organisation on my right-hand side, which is the side on which my hearing is partial at best. Ergo I am subject to far less distractions than I otherwise would be.....
Still. I would trade my increased productivity for the ability to hear properly in both ears. Something additional to speak to the doctor about later in the week methinks.

A pleasant first two days of the week. Well, getting up to catch the 6.55 train on Monday wasn't much fun, but after that two days of interesting work meetings, or rather a day and a half since I had nothing on Monday afternoon, so wandered along the south bank of the Thames in the sun (inadvertently avoiding the Tamil protests that the police failed to contain, which would have blocked my usual walking route - though I only learnt that later), then strolled over to the British Museum for a bit (partly to reacquant myself with the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon - reading Socrates at the mo, it's nice to look at sculptures that I know he also gazed upon). Dumped stuff at hotel, then met James Wilson (Jaymz) and Paul Wright for a pint or three before turning in. A nice lie-in and cooked breakfast this morning before today's day-long meeting, and home.
I will be tired tomorrow.

I got a little irate with the Internet Explorer browser on my computer this evening. It all started when I downloaded a toolbar for IE and when I downloaded that it also downloaded Windows Live Messenger which I have no interest in. Everytime I booted up my PC the Live Messenger login window appeared which annoyed greatly so I uninstalled the toolbar that I had downloaded and also Live Messenger which fixed the problem of the Live Messenger login window always turning up but also started a whole new problem. Now Internet Explorer doesn't want to work properly and keeps on shutting down whenever I visit this forum. So, I've decided to cut my losses and downloaded the Firefox browser and am using that now. So far there are no problems.

Karl You may have an ear infection. I'm very prone to them, so my GP knows to give me Gentisone, which usually does the trick. Sometimes an ear syringe is also needed, which isn't as bad as it sounds. -Ralph

So far there are no problems. I, meanwhile, have to use Internet Explorer for the Hub, Seibertron.com and a variety of other websites (some sporadically, others all the time) because Firefox crashes inexplicably when it goes onto them. Weird. Today was tiring but not bad. Tomorrow brings another delivery to Toys'r'us, the third this week. It's getting quite busy, especially in the 'outdoor toys' areas. Our bike dept has a 6 day waiting list for bikes being built for customers. The warm weather is really bringing cycling enthusiasts out of the woodwork. -Nick

I had a days training on Cultural Diversity today, so I was out of the office and in a meeting suite at a hotel in the centre of Edinburgh. The lunch was very nice. Karl

Spent some time down at STRIVE and fired off some more job apps this morning.
What pisses me me off though is when you apply for jobs elecronically, but employers can't be arsed to even send a 'you were unsuccessful' e-mail back. It costs nothing!
I find myself once again literally without a penny of my own. Actually I haven't had any pennies of my own for about 4 weeks now. DWP are taking their time deciding if I'm entitled to anything and I'm not holding my breath that my last employer will pay me anything. For some reason I keep hearing the Red Dwarf song in my head.
Character building.

Well, at least that is one piece of good news.
I would have thought that your employers would need to pay you for the days that you worked for them prior to leaving the job. You entered their employ in good faith, and they took you on in similar faith. So I would have expected that they would pay you the wage that you were due for that period.
I had an appointment with the doctor today about a couple of things myself. On the bright side I do not have an ear infection, my ears are simply blocked and a continuation of the eardrops and a simple syringing is called for. Which hopefully means that by the middle of next week I should actually have two ears out of which I can hear instead of one. On the less bright side this means that in the middle of next week someone will be sticking a large syringe in my ears, which is not something I am entirely sanguine about....

The syringe thing is actually not that bad. It sounds worse than it is. Takes a couple of minutes and your hearing is crystal clear for a while afterwards!

Meanwhile, two months after British Sugar said I would hear back "in seven to ten days" about their graduate scheme, I was told that I had not been selected and, due to the high number of applicants, individual feedback on what -if anything- I did wrong would not be available. Awesome.
Meanwhile, tomorrow at Toys'r'us is a big inspection by the new area manager and some other vaguely-defined head honcho. Thus today we all got worked like galley slaves to make the place ready for them. The store manager was in the loading bay the entire morning working the forklift and, unusually, unloading boxes with the rest of us. Then, so the second hand information goes, he made the bikes manager cry by badgering her and her one member of staff to work faster to the point of total mental collapse.
When I got home this evening I stuck some soup in the microwave then picked up a knife and fork and took them away with me. I didn't realise the flaw in my plan until my mum pointed it out, and by then I had the soup and inappropriate utensils in front of me. Apparently I'm a wee bit frazzled. Also I've been hauling cardloads of stock all day and my thighs are surprisingly sore.
Hey ho. For better or worse, tomorrow is crunch time. We do what we can; we can do no more.

Your store manager is a complete ****.
Sorry to hear abour British Sugar. At least they bothered to let you know. This is, sadly, unusual.
8 jobs applied for this week so far. Not much going, and some of them have required a CV and covering letter and application form.
In other news, I ate the visual aid for a youtube video last night and woke up this morning to the most foul smell imaginable. One can have too much fibre in their diet.

I can do them very quickly now, especially if they are on-line apps. Since life turned to shit last year, I'm not sure how many jobs I've applied for. Stopped counting several months ago. Only 4 ever resulted in being asked for an interview. Most never get a response at all. I find it's best to 'complete and forget', then be pleasantly surprised if an invite to an interview turns up.

I went to a Freddie Mercury tribute show on Friday night with a mate and enjoyed it immensly. It only cost us £2 each to get in so I was sceptical at first about how good it was going to be but it turned out quite well. There was only one bloke but he dressed like Freddie from the Queen tour in 1986 and sung a variety of Queen songs using backing tracks. It was an excellent performance and I'm hoping to see it again soon if I can find out if he'll be performing locally.
