itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=316666731&mt=8Starting with IDW's ROTF Alliance #1. And, at only 59p for the 7 Mb download, it seems to represent very good value compared to the printed version. Of course, you'll need either an iPhone or iPod Touch to view it. The issue is currently 15th best-selling App throughout the entire iTunes Store.

I've just installed it now, will take some screengrabs and write a mini-review. It's exciting.

Now you have highlighted this, I might give it a download and try out as I haven't read that comic yet.

Just downloaded it, and it works quite well.
The big question though is surely " When is Hubris going to be available on the itunes store?...."
Ignore me... I think the sun has got to me.

59p versus £3.00 for a printed copy.
That's the way to do digital comics.

Not bad but I wonder how many people will download All Hail Megatron when it comes up on iTunes?

I know I will inevitably end up with either an Iphone or ipod touch soon enough so a very useful review.
Cheers G!

This is quite exciting actually. How well does it read, I saw on the review that all panels were the same size. It is a novelty or is it a serious alternative.
If it catches on, I can quite imagine iTune specific content being created

(Well done on 1,000 posts Matt!)
Personally, I think it a serious alternative. I do watch a lot of stuff on my iPhone anyway as it's extremely portable and always "there" when I need it.
An entire library of Transformers comic titles on such a device would suit me down to the ground. But like I said in my review, I think you need to be predisposed to the technology already. I don't think I could read a novel on a portable device, but I think comics suit the technology just fine.
And, at 59p a go, it's a lot, lot more affordable. After all 6 issues digitally is the same price as a single comic! My strategy is to "wait for the trade" anyway, so it's a cheap way to stay more up to date before the trade comes out.
However, something like AHM or a story with a lot of large, dialogue/narration-light panels might not work so well. Mowry's style usually has a good balance so I think it suits the format well.
Another bonus with the iPhone is that you can have your music playing at the same time as you read, so Jablonsky's score along side the comic works quite nicely!

Some chirpy music that normally gets put into the category 'isn't this a Black Lace song?' might make AHM more readable.
The entire Marvel UK and US TF back catalogue on a eBook would be an interesting idea also.

I do think that this is exactly the kind of pricing structure that is going to work well for digital comics. Finally you would have a return to the halcyon days of comics as disposable entertainment again.
That said, it is something that is outside of my ability to partake of, as I do not own an iPod or an iPhone (they don't particularly appeal to me and my cheap mp3 player and mobile phone are still functioning and therefore not due for replacement anytime soon). But I do applaud the principle of it wholeheartedly.

The rest of "Alliance" and all of "Defiance"* are now available.
£4.72 for 8 Transformers comics is not bad at all.
"Defiance" is far, far superior to "Alliance" in my opinion.

I have just finished reading both series on my iphone, and I concur with Graham that Defiance is by the the best of the two series.
Works well as a prequel to the new movie.

Do these downloads only work for iTune phone things or can you view them on a computer? I'm curious to try them out if they are so cheap.

Which is quite annoying as I didn't bother with an iPhone and as there's nothing wrong with my current non-touchy iPod I have no need to upgrade.
You can watch videos you get from iTunes on your computer (which are less sensibly priced) so why not the comics? OK I know it's not quite the same (the itunes installer includes quicktime afterall) but I can't see it'd be that hard to implement.

You never know; if the iTunes versions sell well, then IDW might consider other means of digital distribution. I would imagine piracy would be their main concern and, at the moment, you can't really do much with an iTunes App so it's ideal for them.

It seems that Graham's review has been noticed by Chris Ryall of IDW fame, as he mentions the review briefly in his blog, ryalltime.blogspot.com/I apologise if this has already been mentioned on The Hub David
