Now for years I've been a confirmed Marvel reader. Twas Marvel comics thatwere bought home for me when I was younger and not DC. and for week in week out I've been a Marvel reader.
But the big stuff - DC's real HUGE stuff from the 80s - I'm talking Watchmen & Darkknight - is just so much better than anything Marvel's produced.
I've read some good DC stuff recently - Alan Moore's Trade, the All Star Superman books and Batman & Robin 1.

I've generally found that Marvel is decent and manages to coast along at a slightly above average level, whereas when DC is good, it is amazing, but when it is bad, it is awful.
Marvel seems to take more risk with new titles than DC, so whilst they might have the same amount of poor titles, they get buried.
DC has Morrison and Johns.

Life-long Marvel fan, mostly due to being hooked on Marvel UK titles when I was a nipper. Plenty of DC stuff I have greatly enjoyed over the years, though I have nowhere near the level of fondess for the 'DC Universe' compared to Marvel.

Count me as another one with a foot firmly on both horses. I got a fair mix of Marvel and DC stuff when I was a kid, both UK reprints and US issues, and so ended up with a strong affection for characters from both side of the divide.

Going back to the Marvel DC cross over comics. This showed Marvel are in real world, that if we have someone going round risking their life saving us we'd rather hunt them down & call police instead of like in DC - having statues all over the place
ie the scene where Spiderman turned up & seeing Superman statue
