I hate it when that happens. The other day I sat down to watch the 1989 Batman film which I had not seen in many a year. I loved it at the time. And yet, I sank lower and lower in my chair when re-watching it.
It...was...just...shit.
Everything about it annoyed. So dated! Such banal direction! Such atrocious performances! Flat sound design! Arse-grindingly dull story!
I wept tears. Tears!

I'm almost speechless Ralph.
I still love the film, from the understated performance of Michael Keaton, just enough touches to let you know that mentally this is not a well man. The designs of Gotham are superb.
Once you get past the fact that Jack Nicholson is Batman's nemesis it's a good film.

My good opinion of Batman has lessened somewhat since Batman Begins came out, but I still enjoy it. Plus it has Jack Nicholson in it.

I think I know what Doc' means re Batman. Keaton's performance is good, but Nicholson is just OTT, too goofy almost.
I can't think of any offering at the mo. Then I am easily pleased.

I've been avoiding watching any of the Apes sequels as I know they can't fail but be disappointing. How do they measure up against each other though. Which is better Beneath or Escape? On the DVD of Planet of the Apes they pretty much say they think Escape was the better of the two.

They are both almost equally crap, though 'Escape' just edges ahead by virtue of the Dr Hasslein character and also whenever The Montalban is on screen (not much, sadly).

I watched the last one a year or so ago. It looked so cheap and was pants. I watched to the end though such was my love for the Apes films.

But seriously....I'm not Pat Lee...although I would like to take a moment to consider something about Pat Lee (who is not me - really).
Ever wonder what Pat Lee thinks of Transformers now? I mean - like it or not - he was, or at least marketed himself as being a mega-TF-fan who wanted to do the comic "right" - ...
And not only did his company go bankrupt (so not just the TF comic, but the whole endeavor), and not just did he tank precisely at the moment when Transformers was turned into a worldwide mega-franchise thanks to the Movie (surely that helps the license owner), but the fanbase pretty much hates his gutts for Titty-Prime, all of those splash pages and very lame lame plots...
I wonder what he thinks of Transformers? Does he hate the franchise now? Has he started up a new company? Is he into some totally different business? Or maybe he is proud to have been a part of "official" TF history with his comics?
In any case - without Pat Lee we wouldn't have the Warwithin Series - so you have to give him kudos for that - I know he didn't write/draw it (although he did make up the Fallen) - but insofar as I think it's a great story (both WW and Dark Ages), the only reason it had a chance to be made was because of Pat Lee's Dreamwave...
on that note, I guess after all of the damage Pat Lee has done (to this day his damaging influence continues to be felt - notice how UGLY the Revoltech Transformers are...) ... I feel a glimmer of sympathy for him and desire to be thankful that he tried - it gave us WW and DA and that's good enough.

While I think Pat Lee is a very mediocre artist who did very little on the page while others did the work and he took the credit and cash (look at ebay pages of his art for proof), my main problem with the man is the repeated number of times he has screwed over fellow professionals by not paying them, etc with no apparent remorse. I have no time for such behaviour.

Ever wonder what Pat Lee thinks of Transformers now? Nope. Not in the slightest. I wonder how those folk who didn't receive monies for work done are doing. But I no more wonder what Pat Lee thinks of Transformers than I do what he thinks of Batman. Last I heard he was involved in trying to start something up somewhere in Asia (presumably where his reputation has not yet reached). I figure in the long run he will run out of parts of the world to work within the comics industry in and will have to start running his tax scam in real estate or sock manufacture or something.
