Yeesh! And the equally terrifying news that a series of Just William is being made. Read some of those books as a kid and they were bloody awful.

John Sullivan is only doing this because the BBC has cancelled his other Only Fools and Horses spinoff The Green Green Grass. The idea of a TV series featuring Del and co. in the sixties has been floating around for a very long time and fans like myself thought it would never happen. That said I don't think it will be any good. I can't stand The Green Green Grass and the last three Only Fools episodes were terrible rubbish that even had the temerity to contradict the whole 'Who is Rodney's father' debate.

It's like First of the Summer Wine all over again Just William was made into a series before only last decade. I've no idea why the BBC wants to make it again.

When I first read this thread I too was thinking about First of the Summer Wine. I've never been a fan of Compo and co. but I do remember it being on TV ... and remember it fizzling out a short while later.

Lasted two short seasons.
I wonder if the Delboy prequel show will be filmed in Bristol since the article said there would be familiar locations. This depends obviously if the show will be mainly indoor or outdoor I suppose.
I used to live near an outside shooting location for the block of flats where the Trotters lived.

If it does come on TV I'll watch it but I won't hold out much hope of it being any good. The problem with prequel stories is that if the writer doesn't pay close attention to things that have been written in earlier episodes it can contradict what has been said previously. In the final OFAH episode it spilt the beans on Rodney's parentage. John Sullivan mentioned a few things from the much earlier episode 'The Frogs Legacy' in it but wrote it in such a way that it contradicted things said in that earlier episode. Needless to say, fans had a few things to say about that on the net.

Same. I'll probably watch it, but it will probably suck.
Green Green Grass was unfunny, the last 'specials' they did were horrid and undid the lovely ending the series got in the mid 90s.

The Green, Green Grass was dire. Although some people I've spoken to thought it was funny I happen disagree. Boycie is a very funny character but only when he is in his element in OFAH as a snobbish used car salesman. The character just doesn't work as someone who lives in the country.
